Any info on TPC Deer Run on when the best time is to go and how to get the best deal. I made a deal with my 15 year old if he made the JV golf team I would take him to TPC Deer Run. Also if anyone has played there give me your review on the course.

I've played twice, once a week before the John Deere in late June and once on a 60 degree day in early November. Both were really cool experiences; the June round offering the opportunity to play a course setting up for a PGA tour event with grandstands built up around the course, and the November round presenting the course during prime fall colors. In both cases the course was pristine in terms of conditioning.

There used to be an all-day play rate that was available, if that is still offered I'd jump on that to get the best deal.

Deere Run is my favorite course in Illinois, and I would highly recommend pairing it with a round at nearby Fyre Lake which is probably top 5 in the state for me as well.

It is beautiful in the fall. If I had to play it at any time it would be then. I lived in the western suburbs of Chicago, so it was pretty easy to jump on the highway and play there a few times a year.. I've played it probably 10 or so times. I used to find good deals online quite often.

As above mentioned, it is pretty cool to play with the stands up. There aren't a crazy amount; it isn't a TPC Scottsdale situation, but the final few holes had them the last time I played.

It is crazy how easy the pros make the course look. I've never thought it was "easy." The green complexes are good, and there is a good mix of holes, plenty of trouble.

I've never had any issues with conditioning, always in pretty solid shape. My only gripe would be the few times I played in the summer it was obviously hot and extremely humid and buggy. But that is the midwest.

It's a great track, and seems to always be in great condition. You can play it long or short and it's fairly interesting either way, well worth the drive out from Chicago. I second the recommendations from Gdane to pair it with Fyre Lake (shorter but very fun course) and to try and get the all-day rate at Deere Run.

Gonna probably have to go in the next few weeks (I think it opens pretty soon)or wait until the fall to get the "best deal", even then it's not really discounted all that much. I think the prime rate now is $175 in the summer and if you go the play all day route it will come out to about $145 per round. It's pretty tough to get more than 36 in there with the play all day thing, pace of play can range from okay to 6 hours a round. Last time I was there it took us 6 hours to play the first round and 6:30 for the 2nd round. That second round was so slow that our entire group just played as an 8some and we kept up with what was in front of us...something that never should happen.

The route I would personally go - play a morning round at TPC, then drive 20 minutes down to Fyre lake and play 18 there. It's a great combo, both courses are top 5 courses in Illinois.

I'm not sure I'd consider a 6600 yard, par 70 course to be short. 5 of the 12 par 4's are 430+, with a few of them that generally play into the wind..and those holes are gnarly greens to be hitting mid to long irons into.

That's for sure not a current card, and the version in that card is even longer, but that aside, yeah they have a few sets of tees.

Do any of you guys have an in at TPC Deer. I am planning on going there in the summer and was just seeing if I could get a discount.

There's no in, it's a corporate owned facility that does things very much by the book. There are certain credit cards that might help, look through your perks. Mine gives me a half assed membership to TPC network so I get access to the private courses (one round per year) and 20% off to the publics. Beyond that, you're paying full price. It's priced very reasonable to be honest, especially the 36 hole rate.
