Summer location to live for golf?

Have had SLO in mind for many years, not necessarily for golf per say...Have always been in love with that town, almost went to school there many years ago. The costs do scare me away more than anything.

Me too. Costs not so scary since I live in San Jose now (thus used to things being stupidly overpriced). Central coast of CA is fantastic.

I'm by no means a Badger fan, but the Madison/Milwaukee area might fit the bill. Here's an article about Madison's golf scene (some courses mentioned are private):

Is there a budget on course prices you want to stay within? Some places mentioned are great but the better public courses can be pricey.

Depending on wallet of course but the best answers are near California coast or Bend Oregon.

slo, San Diego, Bay Area, etc. weather around Napa is basically 55-75 from may through October and it never rains. North bay is similar but can get a little cooler at times. SLO and San Diego are as wel, again not much rain, just amazing weather.

I live in California and actually disagree. Why fight for tee times when you can play hundreds of public, nicely conditioned courses in MI-WI? It's a rat race out here. Now the wintertime I would recommend the southeast over CA as well. Love our weather but golf is way undersupplied.

I lived 40 years of my life in the Bay Area and have to agree about best weather but also rat race and under supplied golf. SLO might have enough golf though for its population density to be good enough with awesome weather. It’s not hundreds of courses though. I haven’t played golf there yet might have to make a trip. Flying from there is a bit of a hassle.

But I need to make some trips to MI also. Montana was quite a decent golf experience last summer. It sorta does seem like I need to consider bend, Montana, Michigan and central California…..MAYBE San Diego but maybe not.

Plus daylight til 10pm in the summer. Easy to get 9, sometimes 18 in after work.

Lots of this depends on budget. From what you are saying throughout the OP and responses I would think MT fits the itch. Not sure about Whitefish in regards to med and culture, but I would think either Missoula or Bozeman might get it done for you. The spring and late fall are not warm, so April and October are affected by frost and/or just straight snow.

Both now have museums, both have concert venues, both have college sports, both have hospitals, both have mountain biking. Both have sky high housing costs as well. Golf specifically? I would give the nod to Missoula for course diversity and proximity. CDA and Spokane has crazy good public golf, and all the other things listed here (including the home prices), but Spokane is a hidden gem for public golf, then throw in Circling Raven and CdA resort and you have a some good courses to choose from..
