YMMV but UPS is always the highest of the big 3 and is always a day or two late vs FedEx. USPS -> FedEx -> UPS in terms of cost.

Now that they've added the extra $18 charge for boxes over 30" long it's not even close. With Pirate Ship it costs me around $12-$15 through UPS compared to $30-$40 through USPS. Combine that with the embarrassing performance that USPS turns in time after time and its not even a competition.

Cool.  I don’t seem to get that discount.  But as I said earlier I always offer the buyer their preferred shipping method after agreeing on the price!

Hmm.  USPS is usually the lowest cost option for ground service when I compare them.  Occasionally Fedex is lower but not too often.    UPS is usually the highest.

I usually negotiate the price and then offer the buyer whatever shipping they choose as a pass thru.  Removes any of this concern.  Also gives them an option to purchase the shipping label if they get a better deal than me.

Using pirate ship?

if using the post office directly, id agree with the other poster, with the added fees it’s usually the most expensive option for me at least.

Yup usually about 30-45 for clubs from usps.  For whatever reason sometimes a fed ex discount pops up and they are cheaper.  UPS is almost always 40-80 for clubs for me.

Is this a location issue? Does UPS have to take a boat to reach you? I can't imagine always spending $30 to ship a golf club. I wouldn't be able to be competitive with pricing at all.

Nope, but frequently across the country.

I don’t know man.  I use the standard boxes I receive the golf clubs in when I buy them.  I’m not too worried about since I’m not in the flipping or selling clubs for profit.   just looking to get a little money back.

Pirate ship doesn’t offer FedEx so I am not sure what you are looking at.  If you are getting a quote for 40-80 to ship on Pirate ship you are doing something wrong.  You must be using a box over 48” which it triggering the extra length charges.

Sometimes I user the reselling platform shipping options, who offer FedEx, sometimes at a discount.  Boxes are all under 48.

like I said I’m always open to the buyer providing the shipping label if they are better at logistics than me.

Here's a quote from Pirateship.com for a 48"x6"x6" box weighing 4lbs 0oz shipping from Lime Rock Golf Club in the very NE corner of Maine to Torrey Pines zip code.

I also checked the same package routed from Key West to Bellingham Washington:

ONLY reason you should be paying more than about $15 to ship a couple clubs is added insurance on top of the $100 included with UPS.  Heavier weight (checked 10lb package, same dimensions) went up essentially $1/lb added.

🤷

maybe it doesn’t like me.  Next time I have the need to do it, I’ll post back in this thread with the results.  Most of the time it’s about 30 bucks.

i mostly use the reseller platform shipping, and use pirate ship the few times I’ve sold out side of one of those platforms.

Not sure what you mean by “reseller platform” shipping.  If you mean shipping through the eBay software their shipping prices are significantly higher than pirate ship.  I just sold a bunch of stuff on eBay and shipping with UPS through their software was 12-15 bucks more a box than pirate ship.

Yes that’s what I mean.

again I always offer somebody the option to get their own label if they can get a bigger deal since I’m just passing through shipping.
