Gullane No 2 vs Dunbar vs Goswick.

Trip coming up in a couple weeks, need to choose our day one “warmup” course.  Narrowed it down to these three.  Staying in Edinburgh.   Which of the the three would be recommended ?

All are good. I think Goswick is clearly the best, but Dunbar is special and closer to Edinburgh.

Dunbar doesn’t get the attention it should.

Another vote for Dunbar, although it's the only one of the three I've played.

I’ve not played Goswick but I’m told it’s very good - but in your position I wouldn’t drive past Dunbar to get there!

All three are excellent, if you're fed up with traveling Goswick is a longer  distance to drive. Gullane town has maybe a better 'golfy' ambience as a town /village and Dunbar maybe a slightly better course. But you should enjoy any.

Dunbar is better than both Gullane 2 and Goswick IMO. I'd also consider Kilspindie in your mix.

Played Goswick yesterday,  very good, worth the drive.    Didn’t play the other 2, so can’t provide a comparison. N. Berwick today, great. Renaissance tomorrow.

I’m there 2nd week of June and playing Dunbar, Gullane 2 & Kilspindie on the last 3 days of our trip. Can’t wait!

We'll be there in August and we're playing Kilspindie on Day #1 in the afternoon after a redeye from the East Coast and then we play Gullane #1, #2, & #3 on days #6 and #7 and we finish with Dunbar on Day #8 before flying home the next day.

 

We booked this trip ~18 months ago, but it's close enough to feel real now!

I'm late to the party but add another vote for Dunbar.  We played around 13 courses last summer and Dunbar was top 3 for us and the cheapest round of all the courses.  Just make sure to replace your divots or the members will have your a**!

I'm used to filling with sand from the carts. So when we walked all our rounds there it took a bit to get the habit going.

ahhh yes forgot about that.

 

My course has a guy who just does the divots, such a nice guy and he loves it.

it should be, i see so many divots and unrepaired pitch marks it drive me beserk

Must say on most links courses I don't see many unrepaired pitch marks because generally the greens are too firm for most golf shots to mark.

last year we got pitch marks all year - so wet all winter then into summer. A normal year is none from May. This year we have not had any since the start of April after a very dry winter and spring. Greens have been running amazing these last two weeks after recovering from punching. &nbsp

On our Chicago visit last year we asked about filling divots and the manager said (verbatim) “We have people to do that”. No wonder golf in the US is expensive.
