Jupiter area- Laid back Club options

Looking for suggestions or ideas..
We are making the transition to mostly full time in the greater Jupiter/PBG/Tequesta area in a year, year.5 or so.
While I am a RE Broker (part time-mostly for investment purposes) in the local area, I would guess that I have not been inside 90% of the Clubs in the area.
When I am down there I am mostly doing work stuff and not golf stuff.

I currently have a home in Abacoa that I rent out and will probably not be moving into... (I know Abacoa GC has that limited outside member stuff available for a few hundred or so)
I will probably buy a distressed non golf/club home and flip it to myself for my personal residence.
But there is also an outside chance that I will buy within a club.
If I don't buy within - I would like something fairly close by.
With that said, here is a "not the usual" list of what I am looking for in a club:

  • Laid Back and not stuffy (like even remotely)
  • An awesome practice area is essential - grass area/bunkers,short game area..etc.. (range rat 1st...)
  •  If I have to tuck my shirt in then it's a no go... ( LAID BACK)
  • The course has to be good. (doesn't need to be incredible but good and challenging)
  • Sub 100k cost and less would be preferred.
  • good workout facilities.
  • The social aspect I don't really care about except that it's not snooty...

I know the prices in the area and the golf communities well (even though I haven't seen much from inside the pearly gates)

outside shot at the Stuart area but prefer the Northern Jupiter (pennock pt or thereabouts), Southern Martin County area.(Tequesta .southern Hobe)
Thank you

I have played at Turtle Creek a couple times.  I can't say for certain what it is like, but it seemed fairly laid back.  Didn't avail myself of all the practice facilities but it does appear they have some of your facility requirements.  At least golf wise.  Although your untucked shirt thing may be a deal breaker.  My personal opinion there is a different between laid back and sloppy, but to each their own.  Their course, their rules.

Not too many members who took themselves too seriously.

That is one of the clubs that I have been in though I haven't played there.  Was looking at some potential flips last year there.
Tequesta Country Club perhaps also .. Though I checked out the practice areas and it seemed adequate, but not awesome.

The Shirt thing is weird.. Wouldn't consider it sloppy..
I just don't understand the tucked in shirt thing.  It is so 1900's ..
Shirts are now nice and athletic/breathable and look way better untucked.. more of a workout type of shirt but still with the collar and traditional look.
Perhaps that is another topic..

just looked at the Turtle creek page.. I am going to do a tour..
Turtle Creek Club offers a large practice facility for all practice aspects of the golf game. The driving range is a two-tier area that can hold up to 40 spots to hit from. It also features 27 artificial turf spaces which we utilize during special events and inclement weather. The driving range depth measures 375 yards long and 75 yards wide. Our new, three-acre short game practice facility offers plenty of room for members to perfect their 100 yards and in skills. There are two practice greens and three bunkers which simulate the greens on the golf course. With three target flags on each green, this will give you different marks to aim your shots. We also offer a large practice putting green, adjacent to the Pro Shop, next to the 1st tee.

May want to take a look at Cape Club of Palm City.. Checks off all of your boxes. Very laid back and junior/young exec club with reasonable rates. The conditions are fantastic and the course plays super private. The distance is the only thing thats challenging about the club, its a 30 min drive north of Donald Ross Rd. However if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get into a local club its a solid option.

Do you keep it in play?  If you spray Cape Club may be a difficult one.  Not too far off line and you are talking lost ball.  If you keep it relatively in play then you'll be fine.  I played it twice before it went private, and I can see what people were talking about.

Going to look at it mid June anway as I will be up that way.
I fall into the very long Bomber category... typically don't like courses where I have to hit predominantly irons off the tees( which I will do ,but don't want that to be my home course)

The length is fine unless you're a 315 carry guy, but then most courses will be a problem for you.  It's more your dispersion.  If you spray it can stop being fun real fast.

I would hope a self proclaimed "very long bomber" carries it at least 315. Untucked shirts have their advantages!

I am going to do a separate thread on the overall tucked in shirt deal.  Tucking in shirts seems so east coast 1950-1960's.
I played the Army Navy course this past weekend in Fairfax Va for a wedding.   Had to tuck in shirts on the course.
First time I tucked in a shirt since the 90's .. literally golf or life (except weddings and funerals)

so much for that.lol
Typical carry 300-310 rollout 320-330- but yeah more dispersion than I want.

It's a bit of a drive for you but the best membership you'll find at a country club, check out the Stuart Yacht and Country Club.  $40,000 initiation fee, best greens in Martin County, plus an outstanding chef.

Heading to Jupiter this week and will venture up to Stuart.
Going to look at a lot of houses and clubs.
If anyone has any other ideas for "mostly laid back" that fits the bill.
LMK.   also going to look at Sailfish Point.
I'm going to see a fixer house there and that will get me inside the gates.
thank you

Lost Lake up that way went back to fully private this year. I like the course, though it was a little on the tighter side. No idea about the club atmosphere, etc. but don't think it's been mentioned in here yet.

Hawaii and the Bahamas should have a bunch of good options. I’ve seen dudes playing in just a bathing suit in the Bahamas. Also would be one less person moving to Florida which would be much appreciated.

You are a funny guy..
As far as the "laid back dress code"
I mean this :
1000023913.jpg.2d9ce6c2932e9ff18ec82b922dd010a2.jpg

basically modern day athletic golf attire.

When I mean "laid back club"
I mean- I'm not snooty...

"not snooty" is more important than "shirts must be tucked in."

I already have a FL driv lic. so in theory I have already moved there.

I didn't get the feeling Sailfish Point was going to meet your laid-back desire....

I suspect that.  But am going there anyway to check out an unlisted reno on a premium lot.
A great deal and cool location perhaps "could" persuade me to overlook potential snobby stuff.. .   But I doubt it.
will have be deal of the century for an owner occupied potential home in a more snootier development plus an incredible practice facility to have me tuck that shirt in 24 /7

Most likely I will still live outside of whatever club we decide on rather than inside.
But you never know.
Looking at like 8 or so previously unseen places... will give my initial feedbck next week.

upon further research - Sailfish point is out of the league.. it was an interior lot deal on a lake but 2500/mo hoa..  geez..

2500/mo HOA?  I guess they are escorts, not hookers, at that price?  Holy crap.  I don't care how laid back it is.... $2500....sheesh...

Checked out some previously unseen clubs in the  Tequesta/Hobe/Stuart areas as well as some residential areas..

here is my viewpoint from what I saw on this trip.  (I didn't play- just looked)

Turtle Creek - Jup/Teq  Golf course was closed for early summer reno stuff but I had a chance to walk around and see a couple houses too .
Looks like a decent course with a good practice area. I had been in here before but looked at it more closely.  Housing has potential also though mostly early CBS 80's stuff.. not far removed from Jupiter area.. Think the initiation cost is around 50k

Hobe Sound Golf Club.  An impressive sleeper, for sure.  Course looks great/impressive . Practice facilites look fantastic.  clubhouse undergoing total reno.  Housing limited.  (saw a total dumper POS in there) seems like an alternative for the neighboring unattainable Medalist club.   Initiation  about 100k

Lost Lake Hobe-   Interesting situation.  Large subdivsion/masterplan with tons of housing(didn't even know this before hand and I am a Broker) Course and Range undergoing new Reno and on the upswing . Met the sales guy there.  50k initial .
location is a question as it is right in between Jupiter and Stewart and not close to either.. but within 20-25 min ish..(depending on where you live exactly)seems like it woould be better off off if you lived in the community.

Champions club Summerfield Stuart-  Looks like a decent sitution with affordable  in-season and off-seasontemporary  memberships(most other clubs dont have these).  Course looks decent. Practice area adequate at best. housing. Close to Stuart. Housing ok...

Yacht and Country club Stuart- Looked pretty decent.. couldnt get info on the $$$.  looked at it because  its close to this cool area of stuart-Mariner cay/manatee pt area

Sailfish Sands- public course.    Average public deal... with a large practice/top golf type facility and neighboring grass practice area.  Course seems average but I could see myself going to the range a lot If  I ever lived close by in this super cool area of Stuart.

Sailfish Pt-  went to see a property.  Out of my league.. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Beyond unique location.

Sewalls point.  Freaking beautiful peninsula with an Island feel and coolest trees lining every street. Awesome residential area . (no golf).. limited amenities- somewhat isolated - would need to go over the bridge back to Stuart.

Heading back next month.  Upon reflection.. Jupiter is still where I want to live. If the right deal came up in Stuart I could see it occurring. but It would have to be epic.  Like a home on the water with docks in that Mariner Cay/Manatee pt /Willoughby creek area.

Also, if anyone knows of any great Practice facilties (non private) that are in the  PBC /Martin co -area that I may have bypassed over the years. LMK...
I have been to John Prince in Lake Worth many times....
cheers

If the Florida Club would put in a practice bunker, that facility would be a pretty good option.  They have everything else, a pretty good chipping area, etc.

Hammock Creek has a bunker, but last I checked it was pretty crappy.  I think they have a better setup at the far end but it is reserved for their golf schools.

Researching the same area, but willing to be as far north as Vero Beach.

The top 3 in that area without breaking the bank seem to be Turtle Creek, Lost lake and Hobe Sound. Did you look at Tequesta as that is on the radar as well.

North I am looking at PGA, the levels of membership are a little confusing but have a friend there who I am sure can clear that up.

My thing is that I am not going to buy in the area, only seasonal rent. So bring to find the right mix for that long term plan.

I did look at Tequesta CC previously and have flipped a home there 2years ago. .  Definitely high on the radar for an area that I would like to live and maybe join the golf club.
I haven't got a current price on that one though . walked it a few months ago.  Range is decent. seems super laid back

Of the 3 you mentioned the Hobe Sound seems like a top tier course (gets the "next tier" who can't get into Medalist)...but also the most $$$   They are redoing the clubhouse now.
Lost Lake is under renovation and seems to be somewhat "affordable"  (I say that word loosely)
Turtle creek Is interesting also.  Though it was closed when I went there recently.

Many do the seasonal rent or snowbird thing.  I wish some of these places had a winter membership or something along those lines..

Got a feeling I am just going to end up in Abacoa(live) and try to go that route.  I like that course.. practice area is typical public so/so though.
we shall see.  I will report back in August when I go back.
