Maybe because there's only going to be a singular run? The P7TWs are much more expensive but can be ordered new any time. Seems they want to guarantee they don't have any sets of these left sitting around taking up rack space because someone's payment won't go through a few months from now.

That could very well be the case.  I’d be interested to know how many sets of these were sold.  I don’t think these will ever be a full retail release.

Yes, I don't quite understand ordering these irons with Rory's specs if you plan on gaming them.  Can someone please enlighten me?

I played px 7.0 for a period and like them ok.  Ive moved on to a little less stiff options as I’ve  gotten older but can still play them.  So still within the realm of something I play.

 

I guess to expand on your question…..is why do tons of players on golfwrx play aspirational irons or clubs they have no business hitting?

 

the answer is we can and some find it fun to try something new….

With the Tiger irons people were ordering them with x100 and all Tigers specs just to keep them in the box as collectors item. Rory isn't Tiger status but they probably doing the same thing. x100 is a lot easier shaft to play for most too.

nah, don’t think they went that far. Most the people who ordered them at the first launch got his specs because they came with a special box and note from Tiger. Collectors item. Don’t think they thought they would be around for years like they have been. I’d probably get them in x100 as well, it’s not stout like a 7.0. 
 

It’s been a really successful iron for them because of Scottie’s success with them as well.

It’s been a really successful iron for them because of Scottie’s success with them as well. 

Like many here had / have 7.0’s , love them but with a reconstructed shoulder they are harsh on it , went px 7.0 ls which have been a good compromise for me (touch softer handle )

Correct, TaylorMade moved to the USGA length measurement method (noticed that Srixon did too).  +1/2" over length for TaylorMade is roughly the same as +1/4" over length as other manufacturers (Callaway for sure).

plus the x100 tour issue wasn't an upcharge when the Tiger irons first released if I recall correctly, same for the cord tour velvet grip. So it kind of gives you some incentive to get his shaft/grips. Not sure if they are upcharges now? Normally tour issue x100 is a pretty good upcharge.

I've been on the lookout for used P730 heads in good condition for 2 years now, so jumped at the chance of ordering these new.

For anyone interested, I went with these specs:

 

X100 Tour Issue shafts SSx1 (90-92mph 7 iron)

Standard loft (maybe I should have went 1 deg strong as my current mp18 mmc set has a 32deg 7 iron)

+1  1/4 overlength and 2.5 Deg. upright (I'm 6'2 with a 38.5'' WTF)

MMC Plus4 midsized grips

Got 10% off retail, here in Ireland
