Our club has never had an invitational, but has announced one this year. Note this isn't a CC, it's a university. Golf only venue.

 

3 rounds, 2-man teams.. includes dinner after each day + open bar. $1700 for the 2 players.

 

Typical guest fee is $120.

That seems high, and you did not even mention the ~$300 in tee gifts that usually comes with it.  Ours is $1500, 2 days, five 9 hole matches, 2 man teams, 60 teams, open bar all day every day.  Tee gift of 2 wedges or a hybrid or 3 Peter Millar items or anything else of this general value.  Our guest fee is $150.

Out of line IMO. Ours is 1 practice day, 2 comp days, $1000, no open bar.

Too much IMO.  We are three day, it's $800/ team.  I should mention as well, this is a private facility.  On a public?  I can't imagine folks paying essentially an $1340 premium to play on a course they could play for significantly less at other times.

 

$100 of each entry goes to tee prizes at wholesale, so $175-$200 for tee gift.

Three days of food, breakfast and lunch and a steak dinner on the second night.

Open bar on the first night for a couple hours.

But below is how they do it so lavishly for less money, but it takes work.

 

The event is subsidized by the 10% rake on the Calcutta which runs about $9,000 to the tourney, and they trade rounds of golf to get a professional auctioneer in there to run it.  They also get sponsors at $150/ sign and give them 2 free rounds and a cart.  They get kegs of beer sponsored by a local distributor which they litter around the course for free beer if that is your want.

 

EDIT; I should have done the math.  84 teams, and this year there are 45 teams on the waiting list.

Wish I could play in mine this year. It ends up being pretty costly to play your own place….but it’s FUN.

I have 2 clubs, similar invitational as yours. One is 1700, one is 2300. Both also give nice tee gifts. Open bar, dinner one evening.

Ours is $2,000, 3 days, two man teams, dinners, etc.  And it is always way oversubscribed.
