Ventus Velocore Plus Shaft Help

Recommended Posts

I have had success with the OG Blue 6X in two drivers, but I am not getting any younger.  My SS is around 108-ish these days.  I just had a fitting with the Ping rep outdoors and ended up with the 440 Max 10.5 turned down a degree and the Tour Chrome 2.0 X.  I didn't hit the Ventus shafts because the Tour Chrome was flying pretty well, but his Mevo+ wasn't connecting to the iPad so it was all off of visual sight vs radar numbers.

He also fit me into i230's with the Elevate 95 S.  I loved the lighter softer shafts.  I have played X all of my life.  I do have S flexes in my fairway woods.

Trying to decide if I want to go Ventus Plus Blue 5X or 6S?

Thanks for your input.

The most important thing is to get the weight right as that will affect feel the most, IMO.  There is no guarantee that the lighter option will increase ss.  At 108 ss, you could still stay in X since that's what you're used too.  I found that the Velo+ blue has more feel than the OG.

It looks like according to Fujikura the weights are as follows:

5X - 59g

6S - 65.5g

6X - 66g

The Tour Chrome 2.0 is 66g in X.

The weight difference between 6S and X is miniscule so you could go with either one, however, S will feel softer overall compared to X.  The big concern is if your brain senses that X is too stiff, there's a good chance that it will throw off your swing where you may be making unnecessary compensations causing you to make timing issues or increased mishits.

If you are smooth to moderate in your transition, Blue 6S tipped 1/2” would probably be a great tweener option. If you have an aggressive transition, 6X probably better.

I’m in the 106-112ss range with a smooth transition and love my Ventus Red 6S VC+ tipped 3/4”

Coming from Black 6X VC+, I really prefer it. I’m 53 and slowing down a bit.

I went through all this recently. 53yo scratch golfer with a similar swing speed. Tried moving down to stiff (sold a set of irons in xs, bought a set in s, sold them and went back to XS…an expensive 6 months) but realized I still preferred XS through the bag. Played a Ventus Blue 6x and it felt soft in my hands on transition and hit the ball too high. Bought the Black and hated it. Way too boardy. Bought a red 6x, tipped it an 1.5”, and love it. Very stiff in the hands and have no problem hitting it high or punching it low when windy or fairways dried out. The pros call it a purple (red/black combo). I also have the new speeder in my 3 wood and would likely try that one next but not looking.

I have a Blue+ 5X and it has a lot of flex in it.  NOT overly stiff at all.

I am turning 53 this week.  I have bought the Red in 6X and hit it all over the lot for some reason.  I have tried the Black and I don't have the horse power anymore for it.  I launch it low with low spin, so I like something that spins more and launches higher, except the Red didn't work.

Red has been great in my Cobra DS-Adapt LS, but not so good in my QI35 LS. GD Tour AD-IZ was very nice in the QI35 LS. Getting fit helped my find some nice shaft head combos that eliminated two way misses.  I also found that softening my shaft flex just a little has improved my dispersion. I’m swinging with more control and don’t feel the need to overswing. OMMV

  • 2 weeks later...

You could go Ventus TR Blue on a 6S and tip

it 1/2” or maybe even an 1”

I only have experience tip trimming 1/2” on the TR Blue 5S and I love it, was thinking to try 1” tipping on the same TR Blue 5S type shaft, but haven’t done that yet

Thinking about this very topic myself. Currently in 6x in New Blue but will be 57 in 2 weeks and really starting to feel my age. Was thinking about 6s to be honest.

I'm also trying out an S flex in New 3w, kbs td 70 series. If that works I'll have a better idea.

G luck

As @phizzy30 mentions above getting the weight right is the first hurdle. I was a longtime 6 weight driver shaft player, but pushing 60 yrs old, I figured going lighter was 1 part of the answer for loosing some clubhead speed. Don't get me wrong, ultimately it worked, but for me there was a significant learning curve because I was very sensitive to the weight change. So if you are thinking of dropping a weight class, give it some time, because there will probably be an adjustment period.

100%. I am trying the GC 5x right now. First time with a 56g shaft. I am struggling with it. I was hoping for more more speed (which I got) but cannot feel the club head. My timing with it is poor at best. OG Velo Blue was the best shaft for me. The VF I right there as well but I needed more launch. I am thinking of trying something in a 70g weight but in a stiff. The only X shaft left in my bag is my DI 85X hybrid but that is really an s. The struggle is real for me. lol....

Have always struggled with 50g stuff in driver.  I do believe (as mentioned) weighting is way more important than flex (which is subjective from OEM to OEM, etc as we know).  I am going to try a 2024 Ventus Blue in 6s to see how it goes.

Heck I might even go way back to the Speeder VC stuff, which I loved and played forever.  6.2 in driver and 7.1 in 3w, S flex.  Non TS models.  I think the 7.1 in 3w is probably the best 3w shafter ever made, at least for me it was.

Currently trying a KBS TD 70g S (cat 3 for them) in my 3w, see how it goes.  Range today and tomorrow, round Sunday.

Have you added weight to the head?  I recently made the switch from the VF-7 to the Diamana BB 63(around 15 gram difference) and it was like night and day, but once I added tape to the head, I got the right feel and I have an easier time squaring the face.  Ball speed jumped up quite a bit as well.

I have gone to a Ventus TR Blue on the 5S and have fallen in love with it with a 1/2” tip trim

thinking of going to try a 1” tip trim in the Ventus Blue TR 5S

dont like the 6 weight shafts so never had the chance for a 5-X

maybe the blue plus in 5-X might be worth a shot?

anyone hit the TR blue and Blue plus?

Not in 5x but 6x yes. New Blue has more feel to it. TR is super stable more stout. Probably a tad longer. Lower flt too. New Blue is great shaft too

My brother has the Velo+ and I had the TR blue for a short time.  I agree with @Lord Helmet.  Velo+ is smoother and has a touch more kick than TR blue.  I wouldn't say that the TR blue is more stable but it's very individual based.  What I saw/felt is that the Velo+ blue is easier to turnover although TR blue isn't anti-left.  If you don't love the feel of TR blue and want something a bit smoother with a touch more kick, then Velo+ blue might be worth a shot.

I really like the feel of the TR Blue 5 stiff with 1/2” tip trim

since I can get a good deal on the TR and I like it, will go forward with a 3/4 or 1” tip trim on a new Ventus TR Blue 5S as next step

appreciate the input from my fellow “senior” golfers

Have you added weight to the head?  I recently made the switch from the VF-7 to the Diamana BB 63(around 15 gram difference) and it was like night and day, but once I added tape to the head, I got the right feel and I have an easier time squaring the face.  Ball speed jumped up quite a bit as well.

I PUT TWO SLABS ON IT ON THE RANGE BEFORE THE FIRST ROUND, THANK YOU HELPED SO MUCH WOW...

Why not just order the Chrome 2.0 if you hit it well, instead of going through mental gymnastics to order an aftermarket shaft you haven’t hit? The Ping tour shafts are very high quality, made by UST. They also swing weight better. Most after market stuff comes out at D5/D6 with Ping heads.

I did order it with a Tour 2.0 65x. I’ve played the Ventus blue 6x for years. Threw my sons blue 6x in it and it’s more consistent than the Tour, tighter dispersion.

I have a blue 6x on the way but this weekends tournament will be the Tour 65x.

I also had to send the i230s back to Ping because I hated the 95 elevates. Going back to an x100 soft stepped.
