We have two of GolfWRX's finest testing Cobra's new 3DP Tour Irons! The 3DP Tour irons utilize 3D printing technology to unlock a new realm of performance. Printed from 316 stainless steel, the 3DP Tour delivers the shape and feel of a player's blade with the stability and forgiveness of a game-improvement iron. Both testers had the opportunity build their set fully custom and they are looking forward to sharing what they build with their fellow GolfWRXers. Please feel free to ask any questions that you might have, as the testers will be happy to answer them!

Wow, I cannot tell you how excited I was/am to be chosen for this opportunity, and how appreciative I am to both GolfWRX & Cobra for their generosity in putting this together!

To give a little background, I have been playing golf since my early 20's, though fatherhood did usher in a 15 year or so break for me. I've been back at it a bit more seriously over the last 8-10 years or so. I currently carry about a 12 index which given the amount of time I have to put into my game, I'm generally okay with, though I'd obviously love to improve. I currently bag two different sets of Cobras just for variety, and love them both.

When I walk (which is probably 65-70% of my game, I carry a set of King Tours in 4-GW. I love the clubs. They are consistent for me and have made golf truly enjoyable over the last couple of years! I also have a cart bag that contains a flow set of 4-7 CB and 8-G MB. I love these clubs, too. When I'm hitting flush, it's hard to imagine a more rewarding feel from a forged club.

When the LIMIT3D came out last year, I was absolutely intrigued to see what could be done with 3D Printed clubs. As the reviews began to pour in, it was clear that Cobra was really onto something here. Now with more readily available 3DP Tour, the 3D Printed technology is going to become even more prevalent (as is seen with their newly released putters as well), and I am absolutely excited to be chosen to help experience and explain the advances this technology offers to what I would describe as an avidly average golfer like myself.  What I am hoping to find throughout this period of testing is a club that offers an equally fulfilling striking experience with a little more forgiveness across the face of the iron. When I error in my hits, it tends to be slightly toward the toe, so a little extra margin of error would be wonderful!

I haven't even unwrapped the clubs yet, but I can clearly say these are the most impressive design I've ever laid eyes upon. It is understated class and refinement that just screams beauty! While I have played Cobra for several years now, there have been some iterations in the past that were just too busy, and dare I say gaudy, for my tastes. The 3DP Tour has quite the opposite effect on me: it has the refined appearance and design of a true players club while promising the performance and forgiveness of something more along a distance/improvement iron.

My chosen clubs:

4-GW- standard loft/lie

Shafts: Aerotech Steelfiber i95S

Grips: Lamkin Crossline Black/Black

I also love photography and will be working over the next few days to get some good shots of the clubs, the intricacies of the 3D printing, and some shots that compare the size/footprints of the 3DP Tour vs the KT’s and the CB/MB.

Now, the BAD NEWS!

Just after I submitted my club specs for Cobra, I was riding to work on my Honda Africa Twin moto, on a stretch of road with a devoted left-turn lane next to a through lane. I was in the right lane going straight. A pick-up truck pulling a trailer came up past me in the left turn lane, apparently not realizing the lane was turn-only. He abruptly veered into my lane striking me with the trailer and sending me to the pavement @ 45MPH. As a result I suffered 5 broken ribs and a completely split clavicle on my left side as well as obvious bruising and abrasions. The driver fled the scene, but there are pictures of the truck being circulated by the PA Sate Police in hopes of identifying and finding the hit-and-run driver. (So if you happen to live in South-Central PA, please look up the State Police posting and see if you happen to recognize the truck!). The good news is, there were no broken extremities and nothing that should not heal completely. The obvious bad news is that I am 6-8 weeks away from swinging a golf club. I notified the powers that be as soon as I was able, but Cobra was lightning quick on the club building, and even though I sent a message while still in the hospital last weekend, my clubs were already built and shipped by the time I could get a message out.

So, since I already have the clubs here with me, my plan is to get some great pictures submitted over the next week to 10 days, and then as soon as I am able, to get the new clubs onto the course and spend some great time evaluating the new offering and and giving some personal comparisons/contrasts to the sets that I currently play.

So please be patient with me. I am still moving a bit slowly, but am now at home. I will stay on top of this and give you all the very best effort I can!

And again, THANK YOU to Cobra Golf and to GolfWRX for this amazing opportunity and for sticking with me in the midst of this setback.

Horrible news! Heal quickly! Living in Pennsylvania, you're used to staring at new clubs and waiting for the weather to get warmer. Now, your ribs need to get better. I wish you a speedy recovery👊.

@IndyArcher absolutely horrible news! You are well enough to respond to the forum so that’s a plus also I wish you the speediest and  best recovery! I hope they find the info of the vehicle that hit you. I myself was injured a few years ago when I was rear ended by a truck and got a nasty head injury, luckily the driver stopped and was insured by his father.

I think on behalf of pretty much everyone here I can say please focus on your recovery and healing! We know the clubs are in deserving hands and whenever you are able to post some numbers we will look forward to the results of the clubs after your recovery! Until then we can put some extra attention and pressure on @CasualLie who is already off to a great start!

Dang man,  glad you are still alive!

There is never a good time for something like that to happen,  but how horrible to get these new clubs and only get to look at them.

Looking forward to some pictures and comparison shots with the King Tours.

Oh no!  I ride a Triumph Tiger 800 and know the Africa Twin well, it is a great bike.  Weird accident as we never really get "taken out" by a car on our left going the same way.  I am so sorry, you are very fortunate, in that you could have been hurt much worse.  Hang in there, you will be back to golf and bikes soon.

I have seen a number of folks mention that these offer a pretty high ball flight, but not a ton of spin.   Has that been your experience?

How are you liking the MMTs?   I've read they are more tip heavy.

Congrats folks, looking forward to seeing and reading some great reviews! These irons are on my short list of clubs to give a swing if I get a chance, I absolutely love the style of these from all the pictures and the reviews I have watched. Another fantastic opportunity from Cobra and WRX!

Wow...that sucks.  Any other Golfwrx members in your area that play those shafts.  Maybe loan them out for a few test sessions while you heal up.

I'm getting higher ball flight vs T150, but I want that.  I wouldn't call it too high.  These days, wouldn't most golfers benefit from higher ball flight.  Obviously you don't want high shots that fall out of the air, and I'm not seeing any of that with the 3DPs.

The MMTs feel much better than I remembered.  I had tried them before and did find them be to be tip heavy, but that was in a heavier weight.  I'm making a pretty big change going from 120g to 85g shafts, and it's taking time to adjust.  I just want to get back to a smoother tempo and not have to feel like I'm swinging my hardest all of the time with irons.  That...and age (mid 50s) suddenly catching up to my joints.

Another round in the books.  While the 4 iron doesn't go as high as a 7W, I'm happy to have a 4i back in the bag.  It's much easier to launch/control vs T150.  I can hit low runners off a tee with it, or get the loft on it to get a good carry.

Still not sold on gap wedge.  For comparison, I wasn't all that sold on T150 gap.  It's a bit weird to me.  T150, supposed to be a players club, it's not game improvement.  The PW is 44 and you can buy a T150 48*.  Even though it was a 6* gap, I much preferred my Vokey 50 vs T150 48.  The 3DP is 45*, and even though 1* weaker vs T150, I'm hitting it farther and better.  It feels it takes a lot less work.  Yes, some of it is shaft.  I liked hitting T150 PW on the low side with plenty of spin to stick.  But I'm enjoying even more hitting 3DP a little higher, and it probably spins less, but it sticks as well.

But the GW...the look is hard to get used to and setup.  It feels at address it's going dead left, and I really need to be meticulous at setup to ensure I'm aligned to target no matter how it looks at address.  Also, probably a mistake to have a 85 gram shaft in a GW; it's too light and gets squirrelly.

Keep the questions coming.  I'll get on the trackman next week

Hello Gents!

First of all, I can't think Cobra and golfwrx enough for this awesome opportunity.  I'll do my best to go beyond the "ask".

I'm three rounds into these awesome irons and in a word - fantastic.  All the amazing things you have been reading about these things have so far shown themselves to be very true.

I'm heading to the course now. (I know...rough life). So I'll get a more detailed write up this afternoon/evening.

For now, some unboxing pics (old school)!  And quickly, I'm taking the plunge to a much different setup, going from T150 with PX LZs to MMT 85s!  Big change, but looking to get my height back in mid irons and add a few yards of carry.  So far so good, but as you can imagine, takes some getting used to.

Ask me anything!

Amazing! Let me know if you would like to come down to San Jose Country Club for a round sometime - would really love to invite you over and see these clubs perform first-handed!

Congrats guys! I'm a bit jealous since I don't think I've been more excited about an iron before. The technology is awesome and I'm excited to see how it transforms club-making.

IndyArcher - I hope you recover quickly and they catch the guy! So sorry that happened to you! Another good reminder that life and our health can be fragile so don't take it for granted.

Thanks for the kind sentiments, everyone. The Lord's mercy was evidence in the accident as it could have been infinitely worse than it was, and I'm nothing but thankful for how things turned out. @CasualLie, thanks for keeping people in good information until I am at a place where I can contribute. I'm really looking forward to sharing some future thoughts!

IGYB!

And wishing you speedy recovery.  Hopefully justice will prevail.

cobra

And again, THANK YOU to Cobra Golf and to GolfWRX for this amazing opportunity and for sticking with me in the midst of this setback.

man glad you are alive. thats scary. heal up!

@CasualLie How would you compare the feel of the Cobra's to your 150's? Softer/harder? How about sound on a solid shot?
