Are the 2024 p770s elite? Not as many for sale in the wild as other players clubs

Is it just me or is there never a ton of p770s (newest version) on resale. eBay, this forum, pga tour superstores golf galaxy’s ect. I always see other great players irons of this current release time like srixon zx 7 series the t100/150, apex pro, 243 , king tour, i230. Is it just me or does anyone else see this as well?

I've never played or even hit the 770 so take this with a grain of salt, but I think the 770 is over looked in the TM lineup. You have mid to high HC most likely going with 790 and your low single digit HC going with the CB. You might have some better players with a 770 in the longer irons but I'm guessing not a lot of full sets. Seems like TM would rather market the 790 to the masses.  I've always thought the 770 looked really good for what it is but then again they haven't swayed me to try them.🤷‍♂️

I agree with this but without the handicap. Want a big forgiving club, use the qi. Want a small club you can shape use the CBs/MBs etc. Want something in between, the 790s. The 770s are just in an odd spot for me as I didn’t find them particularly forgiving compared to the CBs nor much easier to shape than my 790s.

I agree with everyone above. Not the biggest shape or most forgiving but still hot, feels terrible. Really good in the 4 iron but doesn't really have a place anywhere else

I have a 5-PW set and the performance is terrific. I’ve had a combo set of Srixons before and the best way I can think of to describe the P770s is they’re forgiving and launch high like the ZX5s, and otherwise perform like the ZX7s — as in, they do have loft, they’re a similar-ish shape from address, and they’re low-spinning for players’-type clubs.

Unlike Srixon, though, they do not feel good. They’re fine out of center. But probably among the worse-feeling options in this sort of players’-iron-with-some-juice sort of category.

I’ve moved back to my i230s for now because I need more spin than the P770s were giving me, and I also needed to bend the lie angles on the P770s flatter and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. They’re in the garage and will probably return to the bag at some point, but I’d need to weaken the lofts and/or pair them with a higher-spinning ball and I have a few boxes of Pro V1s to go through before I buy more.

They are excellent. I will assume many commenters have not played them. Look at the cool clubs review and compare to anything else, then you will know why they are not for sale. Feel is the only knock on older models. Have not hit the newest version but they are said to be even better.

I play the P770's in the 4-6, they are a very tweener club, as others have said they aren't the most forgiving or the largest but they provide just a bit more performance. They feel really well out of the center but anything high off the face or toe side it's ugly however which club isn't?

Had a set of the new ones, 5-GW, just didn't get along with them.   Had modus 105s in them, a shaft I had played before, just didn't see the consistency I wanted at all, and feel was very meh.....but they look nice.

Have a set of new Srixon Zxi5/7 combos on the way, back to what I know well.

I don't get the hate.  I thought they were the best of all the hollow-bodies-for-better-players segment.

You could be sloppy with your strike and still get good numbers.  Moreso than any of its competition.

I'm not a hollow body fan, so I passed on the entire segment.  If someone could figure out a way to up the spin and keep the forgiveness, they'd be on to something.

I don't think they're hated so much as forgotten about. So much is talked about the 790's and the CB/MB that people forget about the 770. Again, I think quite a few Prostaff play them in the long irons but not full sets. But when considering hollow body TM irons, why not take the 790 and the extra forgiveness they provide.

I haven’t spent enough time with the p770. Hit them a few times at demo days. Play the t150. Interesting you found the p770 easier to hit. Maybe miss hits produce better feel but it’s hard to find an iron in that category that retains ball speed on misses the way t150 does

Don't believe they are larger then T150's. Larger than T 100? A little.

Admitted I haven’t spent a ton of time with the new version of the p770.

I guess my point was they are way more similar than they are different and people praise the t150 and tend to dislike or be meh about the 770.

they are both close to the same size

they are both are cavity’s with goo (770 has speed foam, t150 has the tpu insert, which is a “goo”)

similar lofts

similar performance

I don’t think it’s hate, I think they just get forgotten about for the reasons I posted earlier. TM constantly advertise and push the p790 but I can’t remember the last time, bar when they just released them, that I saw an advert for the p770 anywhere.

Exactly. Tons of opinions on wrx are not based on actually playing the clubs. And TaylorMade is always a target for haters. The 770s are great irons, best in their class IMO (I would put the PXG 0317 Tour next). The 790s are for a player who would love the 770s but need a little more help, which is a larger pool of golfers and the reason TM pushes them so much.

I personally didn’t care for the feel when you don’t dime it. Similar to the comments of other posters there are better options IMO like t-150 or JPX forged that fall in a similar category that give plenty of feedback but feel much better

I played the previous years version for a year and I think they are solid clubs but they kinda left me wanting a bit more. The performance was excellent, especially in the long irons but for me I wanted a little more feel out of the short irons. I decided to go with a combo set of a different brand that gives me the performance and the feel, but I think they really are a great club for a better golfer who is not able to practice like they used to.

As others have said, I think Taylormade has squeezed the P770. You have the CB positioning itself as a more forgiving version of the MC and the P790 in its looks are creeping in a bit on the 770. So if you want a bit more forgiveness, you go 790 and if you want a bit more feel, you go to the CB, and that leaves the P770 in a weird spot.

I'll admit that 3 out of 6 people in my regular golf group play the P770s and love them. It could also be that there aren't as many for sale given that people are playing them and keeping them vs moving on. While I have moved on from mine, I am still keeping the set, as I will probably go back to them once my playing and practice time starts to dip due to kids and I just want something a bit more forgiving.

P770 irons are nice, but by design and purpose, not as popular as irons for Players.  Everybody thinks they want player irons, until they use them.  Not as many people want irons for the Modern Player, as labeled by TM.  In the lineup, they are transition iron to game improvement.
