Are the 2024 p770s elite? Not as many for sale in the wild as other players clubs

I feel like the P770 has its place really shines as part of a combo set with the P7CB. As a fully set it doesn’t differentiate itself well enough as others have stated, but it’s a lot better option than the P790 to combo with the CB.

Agreed, I've been curious as to how much difference there actually is because I picked up a full club from the MC to the CB switch and even though I had MC's in the 5/6 iron whereas I have the 5/6 iron P770's the distance isn't as much as I thought in the gains category.

I think they are an interesting club. to me they fit me perfectly as the most forgiving club if I wanted to be in a players iron

I have some speed so don't need players distance and I spin it low as is so i cant play players distance clubs if i wanted to

so this club gives me the lofts with spin i need for my swing, and gives me the most forgiveness I could get without going to a players distance iron or anything game improvement

kind of the best of both worlds. gives that consistency and spin and ability to shape or do whatever you hope to with players irons. but gives that little extra forgiveness compared to other irons in this category

I’ve been playing the 770s since 2022.  Best iron I’ve ever had.  Before the 770s I played Mizuno mp 60s, mp 63s, and the mp 5s.  I don’t miss the mizunos at all.

Had gamed the 770s since '21 until early this year when I switched to BPS but I still play the 4i. They're outstanding for what they are.... mid-high ball flights, low spinning but enough, and straight. They feel great when you flush them and they don't when you don't (like every iron should). You're not going to work the ball with them.. but you're also not going to catch flyers. They're more consistent on distance than anything else I've tried.

People that complain that they don't feel good on mishits is just the strangest thing to me. Grab a cast Qi iron then...

They're excellent irons. Their issue is that they compete in a category with other irons that are very popular and who's customers are very loyal. The Mizuno (243), Titleist (T150), Ping (i230), and Srixon (ZX5&7) all have cult-like followings so its going to be hard for other OEMS to compete in that category. While TM and Callaway haven't quite had a popular product in this category for a while they're still doing quite well in the Players Distance and Game Improvement Categories.

I've hit the P770, T150, 223, I230, and ZX7 extensively and can tell you that they all perform similarly. The biggest differentiators between these irons seems to be price and feel.

I was fit into P770's yesterday.  I was a college golfer and played a lot after college until my early 40's.  Basically gave up the game while my son was playing youth and high school baseball the last 8 years.  Now starting to play again, but heavier with a little slower swing speed.  I went through about 6 shafts to settle on the right shaft, feel, flex and launch/spin characteristics for me.  Then swapped between Srixon ZX7, P770, Titleist T150, and Mizuno 243.

The P770 hit the numbers for me.  Launch, ball speed and spin were optimized.  Mizuno 243 spin was off the charts.  I wanted to like the ZX7 but they just didn't match up well.  2nd best for me was the T150 but spin was just a bit too high causing me to lose a bit of distance.  And best of all, my carry distance with the P770 had the smallest dispersion of all the heads.

I went in thinking I'd end up with ZX7 or T150's, but this is why we should all get properly fit.

I don't think they're hated so much as forgotten about. So much is talked about the 790's and the CB/MB that people forget about the 770. Again, I think quite a few Prostaff play them in the long irons but not full sets. But when considering hollow body TM irons, why not take the 790 and the extra forgiveness they provide.

My reasoning FOR NOT using P790 over P770 is the P790 has a heavy draw bias whereas P770 is far more accurate!

I had a set but sold them. To me, I swing fairly slow so I need stronger lofts. The 925f was what I needed. Other than the loft for me, I’d give them 11/10 stars.

I'm the opposite  ....I'm SLOW and need MORE loft !!! Don't generate enough spin in lower lofted irons to keep ball in the air .....so I use loft

YMMV I suppose. I’m slow by wrx standards - upper 90s with driver. I was hitting the 7 iron about 150, bit with the mizuno set I’m about 165 with enough spin to hop and stop. This made the long game much easier for me. I’m more accurate with an iron than a hybrid.

but this is the p770 thread and like I said I can’t say anything negative. I really do like the stock shafts and the clubs feel really good when you stripe them.

Yeah , I'm not blessed enough to have a strong AoA ; very shallow and sweepy....

Hence the lower launch and spin.

Had I230s before 770s and got too much spin actually .....should have power spec'd those....

Yeah, even and my speed I have a preference for long irons over hybrids and P770 really setup nicely in that category.

Same... I'm a low spin player.  I need loft.  So my 770 are sitting in the backup bag.

Spin is adjustable. Bend your 770s 1 or 2 degrees weak. A lot of stock lofts of long irons these days are too strong for many golfers, but it is easily solved. The 770 long irons are about as easy to play as anything out there. They launch well.

Yes, I know... But I don't want to add more bounce by weakening the lofts.  They do loft very well.

I'm really starting to come around to them.  I waffle back and forth between my i230s and the '24 P770s.  I honestly think that the P770s are as forgiving, if not more, as the i230s.  It's hard for me to make a definitive statement right now, but I think I prefer the P770 turf interaction on the SoCal courses I play.  With tight turf, it's just easier to get the sweetspot on the ball with the P770s.  i230s tend to have just slightly more thin/clunky strikes and I have to imagine it's because of the bounce.

I have the P770s paired with Modus 105S and the i230s are Modus 115S.  Something weird is that I find I hit the short irons better with P770/Modus105 and my long irons (5,6) i230s with Modus 115 do better.  I'm wondering if it's a shaft thing.

105 weight shaft in the short irons working better / 115 weight in the long irons working better = makes me confused.

Currently loving an i230 UW 50* paired with KBS C-Taper 130X though so I'm thoroughly confused.

5 and 6 P770 irons tend to have bad toe strikes, but as bad as the strikes are, goodness I get some really good performance out of them.

I despised the i230. They spun off the planet for me. Tried a few different shafts nothing helped. P770s I have a 7 iron and a pitching wedge that I mess around with and so far I’m beyond impressed. May get a a whole set soon

I'm going back to P770 from P790 for this reason. Last week I went to Florida for 4 rounds on nice and tight fairways, it was drawing too much for my liking even though rest of my bag was fine. I thought I could handle it with little extra distance but P790 are not working out for my game even though it might be easier to hit.

I can definitely confirm that the 2025 p790s are very very draw biased. I managed to control my PHOD (pull hook of dead), but it needs very very little what it needs to draw it. And it’s almost 50/50 if I get a straight, long absolute money shot or if it overdraws into the left green bunker.

Haven’t tested the p770s, but might give them a try.

Currently playing:

Stealth 2: 9° Plus, 3HL, 4H, 6H all on Ventus Red 5/6/7 stiff

Stealth: 6i - AW on Nippon Pro Modus 105 stiff

MG3: 56°, 60° on Nippon Pro Modus 105 stiff

Evnroll ER2B

Messing aroung with:

Stealth 5i, Qi10 Max 9° on Ventus blue stiff, Stealth UDI 17° stiff, Ping Prime Tyne 4 PLD, Cobra Nova-30 Vintage, Spoiler OG

I know you posted this a while ago but are you happy with the CB’s over the MC’s? I have the MC’s and when I’m on they are awesome but I definitely have misses. I’m also swinging a lot faster then when I got them and distance isn’t a problem and the KBS 120S is a little soft. Love that you can get the 125 S+ with TM and only other manufacturer I’ve seen offer that is Titleist with their wedges only. They’re also a little short for me.

Either want to order a set of CB’s with like a p770 4 iron or rebuild my MC’s with stiffer and longer shafts. I like the MC 4 iron when I’m on and swing it 98-99mph and carry it 225 with 105-110 peak height. But a miss with it is rough and figured the p770 would be night and day.

100%. The CB’s are longer than the MC’s but in my opinion I don’t know what the MC’s offer that that CB’s don’t. Personally with that speed and height I’d probably just go full set CB’s.
