Callaway Ai 150 irons vs Ai 200

Recommended Posts

Had a chance ot hit them yesterday side by side with the Ai 200.  Same iron in a much smaller package with slightly more loft per iron.  With a seven iron, i generated simlar spin and descent angle and about 5 yard less yardage with the 150 compared to the 200.

If you like a smaller head and that's what is preventing you from trying these hollow body irons, the 150 may work for you.  That said, I had similar numbers except for distance increase of about 5 yards with the Ai 200, so I am leaning toward that model.  Also, I tend to start the ball left more with the Ai150.  Could be because the shaft was heavier by about 10 grams in the 150.  Not sure...

The Callaway fitter was trying to convince me to wait for the 150's to come out before deciding.  Said will be 4 to 6 weeks.  It will be a test of my maturity, lol.

I put in an order for the AI200 today. My brother got a set, thought they looked pretty good, and think I could use a touch more bounce, little extra forgiveness never hurts.

Ready to give something new a try, been in these close to 4 years, and nothing but Mizuno or Titleist forever.

Look forward to your review. To me the AI200 has been a little overlooked considering they have gotten strong reviews from people who have played them. Did you get the stock back weight or one of the colors?

Wait I thought Titleist 150 was coming out….I’m confused….they have really watered down the apex family. Dropping new models as often as the stock drops….

Well it just follows Callaway’s trend of copying other people’s naming. Seemed like Ai200 and 300 were pretty blatant copying of Titleist’s 2023 launch.

Agreed. The notion that people sit around at these OEMs and think of ways to copy the model names of other clubmakers is laughable. Number conventions are used to name all sorts of things. Some of them are similar and who cares?

Wonder how much the heavier shafts contributed to the shorter distances?

I can't find anything on these at all, just a trademark holding of the name and then this blank web page (https://shop.northway8golf.com/callaway-apex-ai150-steel-irons). I assume its an update of the Apex Pro since that came out in 2023?

I would think so. 200 is players distance and the current next step down towards players performance is the 2023 apex pro. So 150 being a step down (smaller head, weaker lofts) would have to be the apex pro category. Which means down the line we’ll see an ai100?

So if titleist tech story this year with their irons is ai faces (they might call it topographical but it’s ai generated) would you say they copied Callaway?  Asking for a friend….

Take a little getting used too, coming from T100S, but started hitting these well yesterday, missed a hole in one by like 3-4 inches, and several other nice shots. They have a nice solid feel when struck well, no issue feelin where a miss was.

I am off til 6/4, so going to get some good practice in this week, but happy with the first couple rounds.

Turf interaction was excellent. Not really a picker, but not overly steep either, and they worked through the turf nicely

My only other Callaway irons were the mavrik pro a few years back that I hit really well, these remind me of them a bit.

I am a bit of a Titleist guy, so will see what happens when the new T250 comes out, but just less work than T100s.

Thanks. … I’m not sure about the new Titleist T250. Looks beautiful — major improvement to lose the back cap — but I want to see them to be sure they’re not too large. At least one early, superficial review is saying the blade length got longer vs the T200, which I thought was already long enough. But maybe I’ll like it, or the changes to the new T150 will make it more what I like.

I did hit the Ai200 today and I’m impressed. Hit it vs the Zxi5 and Maxfli XC2 and hit them all well. Ruled out the XC2 — when you look down from address, the grooves stop so far from the toe that to me the face looks weird.

I preferred the feel of the Ai200 over the Zxi5 and the results were great, though spin was lowish because I play a draw. Would likely want to weaken lofts. I would say the Ai200 is a little more forgiving than the P770 and the Zxi5. The P770 looks the sleekest, is probably more comparable to the Apex Pro. (I can’t figure out the major difference between the Ai200 and the Apex Pro — they look very similar to me.)

Anyway, out of the Zxi5, 770 and Ai200, I am leaning toward the Ai200. It seems like very little work and has a nice solid but lively feel.

Yeah, am a bit concerned with that flat, wide looking sole, and if it’s a longer blade than T200, I will be out, either stick here or try the T150 again, but will wait to see and here more on the sole.

I also picked up a set of AI200 back in early April. They won out for me in an iron fitting. So far so good. I have played some courses with tight lies as well as softer conditions this spring and they have performed admirably. I feel like they are flying a bit under the radar, really good all around irons (for me at least)
