Has anyone played Broadlands recently? Going to watch the U.S. Women’s Open next weekend and looking for a scenic/memorable place to play the next day.

Not sure I would classify Broadlands as memorable, but it is a good course. It has some pretty holes, especially if you enjoy prairie style golf.

Personally, I like Washington Co outside of Hartford more. That would be my choice if looking for a round close by to Erin Hills after the Women's Open.

Agree with Bear's assessment. My biggest issue with Broadlands is it ends up a pretty bad par 3. If you're going with the par 3 finish, it needs to be a good par 3.

Par 3 finishes are odd. I don't think it is bad though. The worst hole on the course is #10, very blah! I don't know that the routing would allow for a good finishing hole. 12-16 is a really nice stretch of holes. I really like 14 and 16. A lot of really good/solid holes on the front but nothing to really blow you away. It's fun but I would not consider it memorable or scenic. +1 on Washington County....if you can get a time. I suspect the better courses are full or close to it.

OP you might also consider Morningstar. Same architect as Broadlands but IMO a bit more polished. In the same league and a fun course. Both get a LOT of play.

Did they flip the 9s at Broadlands? It certainly feels like #10 should be the opener. And that would eliminate the odd par 3 finisher.

No, but that would be about the only fix.....9 would be a better finishing hole. IMO middle of the pack, solid!

Could go 1-9, 14-18, 10-13. At least end on one of the stronger holes. 12 is tough par 3 and the tee shot on 13 is a bit daunting!

Thanks for the input! I’m trying to stay slightly south. Is Brown Deer Park worth it? Washington County looks booked for the morning.

I have nothing against a par 3 finisher, but IMO if you're going to do it, you need to do it with a really good hole. At minimum it needs to be the best par 3 on the property, or at least the 2nd best, it's neither.

Brown Deer is worth playing IMO, it's sort of fallen out of the conversation over the years, but I still think it's one of the best courses in Milwaukee. Would rather play there than Broadlands.

We decided to sneak in 9 at Washington County Saturday afternoon after watching the ladies play, then 18 at Brown Deer on Sunday morning. Looking forward to a fun weekend!
