It Is Hard Work To Give Up Your DMD's

My primary DMD's are a ShotScope Pro LX+ rangefinder that has a ShotScope H4 GPS attached. The H4 does shot capturing (a non-automated version of what ARCCOS does) and provides basic GPS info. The Pro LX is a typical laser Rangefinder.

 

Problem #1 was my H4's battery was completely dead - probably because I failed to turn it off after the last recharge so it just discharged itself. So no GPS or shot tracking this round - not a huge deal.

 

Next I also have a SkyGolf SX400 handheld GPS that I mostly am just too lazy to sell. But I keep the basic subscription (NC only) and there are places (mostly blind layup stuff) where it is handy. It needs to be recharged about every 5th round and I had recharged it after my last round. And the device was still on my office desk next to my recharging outlets.

 

OK - absolutely no GPS but that is not a huge deal as I am primarily a laser guy. And on the 2nd hole my laser gave me a low battery warning and it went kaput a hole or two after that. But not a big deal as I carry an extra CR2 in my bag. I have a mesh bag with misc golf junk and that is where the battery lives. And it was nowhere to be found. So no laser either. FYI - it had found its way into one of the spare golf gloves in the mesh bag. I didn't figure that out until I got home.

 

I was walking but the carts at our club have GPS on them so I could use that for at least some of the shots. But the two guys (Terry and Rob) that I was playing with were in Rob's private (GPS free) cart. I would like to say that this was then like golf back in 2003 but it really wasn't. Back then our club was pretty good at keeping yardage #'s on the sprinkler heads. Not true any longer.

 

So that is the effort that one has to go through to give up all your DMD's for a round.

I use my phone and the golfpad app. When I have rounds where I'm not keeping score, I might pull it up to get yardages, or I will pace it off from the yardage sticks. It helps that my course does have the yardage sticks and when I don't keep score I'm not trying to be super exact. See ball, hit ball, find it, do it again.
