New Ping iDi driving irons - 2025 Memorial

Serious question - What would be the advantage of using this club or any crossover iron over a hybrid?  I've never tried a crossover.

In theory lower ball flight, less left bias.

The "big hint", if you will, is that the tendency is to unveil these just before many of their staffers are heading over for the Open.

Thanks.  I like the less left bias part.  Difficult to find a hybrid without a lot of left bias, although you can adjust most of them to be open.

I've seen the details released on this, absolutely going to be buying one.  They addressed the sound which was a big point in the g410 (last crossover I used) as well as I like the more flat lie angle to help the lefts.

I haven't picked through the specs to see how the offset aligns with other driving irons, but I mean Scottie plays(ed) the Zu85 and I thought the offset on that thing was insane.

Edit, just glanced at the iCrossover 4 and it is 0.18 and the iDi is 0.13 in offset, pretty notable difference.  It's hard to compare to other companies as TM and Titleist don't even list offset on their driving irons.

Seems this is only offered in a 'black dot' / standard lie angle. How much can you generally bend these casted Ping irons? I would love it at 4 or 5 upright:)

I don't think that's correct. Most pre-order big boxes have option to choose color code.

They have said they can get this in any color code. Whether you can pre-order in your code may depend on the online-store setup. Consider calling your order in to someone because you want to get that right.

Supposed to help with launch and be a little anti-slice but some of us struggle with the look of offset as you fear everything is going to hook!

Maybe the offset is just right to counteract the longer blade and the mass in the toe. It makes sense that a club like this has more offset to get the same face closure a smaller iron with less offset would have.

Hovland explains somewhere that he never liked these slightly bigger driving irons because of the bigger tendency to fade than with his other irons, but he does use this new one. (That might be because of the offset...)

Hit the 2 iron at the store, low bullets off the deck. Seemed pretty easy to hit and forgiving. Feels better than the crossover. I might look into a 3 version. There is a lot going on at address, but all the lines and bulges kind of come together and work to my eye in a very "Ping" way.

The 4 iron version of this looks really really friendly at address. Wasn't able to hit it, but I love the squat blade length and little bulge out the back.

Anyone picked one of these up or got to game one yet?

Debating on 3 Idi, 3 Hybrid, or 7 wood in this spot would like some versatility

Current 7 wood is bueno from tight lies, but very rarely need a 240 yard soft landing shot from tight lies

Haven't been able to try one yet, seems as though the demos are running late.  Tried PGATSS and Carl's Golfland locally, no demos yet, but can preorder.

same story here. None at local smaller retailers or Dicks’s/GG. Pretty small inventory online even at 2nd Swing.

I love my i230 3 iron but this seems to be calling my name

Would they recommend a diferent color code from my current ping irons? For example i play red with my g440 irons. Would i go to orange or black? Or stay with red

Great question.

FWIW, I play red irons, and I play a black 4 and 5 iron. Probably because of my short arms. 🙂

Don't be too afraid of a standard black in just the 4. It's likely going to be fine/preferable.

I hit the 4 iron yesterday, had the stock tour chrome 85s. Was looking for 215-220 carry and was getting 215 on slight mis-hits and 220 on good strikes. This will be a 4 iron replacement. Had a G440 4H and it spun and launched too much even in the big (-) setting and I could only get up to 212 carry on perfect strikes. Currently have a 4 iron but it is living around 206 carry when my 5 iron is 200. The shaft was a bit too light for my preference and I was overpowering it a bit and getting quick. Feel was great and the look is very confidence inspiring which is what I need in this spot. I hit the Titleist u250 as well and that was insanely good, too, but I am leaning toward the PIng ecosystem at the moment.  I just placed an order for the IDI 4 with Axiom 105x red dot. Pricey experiment, but if it works out will open the door to a set of i240's that I don't need 😂

Are you in the 230s now?  If you don't mind what is your 7 iron carry distance?  I just ordered 240s 5-G, and because I see similar gapping issues with my current set (Mizuno MP-25s), and am hopeful something like a idi 4 iron could split the baby for me in that spot.

I have a set of P7CB's and and a mixed set of ZXi5/ZXi7. Generally, 7 iron is around 175 give or take.
