They look great at address, probably feel and play great too. I normally appreciate the tech-forward look of Ping stuff, but I really don’t get the (presumably) aesthetic carbon fiber on these.

Never understood the fascination with the cavity look of an iron, or the sole of a driver.   I’m more concerned with the look at address, and performance.  These will perform well, and sell even better.

They ruined it. I should have known this was coming, given the disappointing and dated (IMO) look of the G440 line compared to the G430 line. Because they were irons, I was hoping they'd keep it consistent and clean like the blueprint S, i530, i230 lines but nope…..back to semi-retro tacky and anything but timeless.

 

Maybe it’ll grow on me, but simply removing the carbon fiber would have improved things. But this is straight out of the early 2000’s, and not in a good way. Just utterly dissapointed.

No, no, no.  I came straight here after seeing it on IG.  First impression is just UGLY.  Probably great irons but I have to look at them in my bag.  I'm almost 45 and have played Pings since 13yo, and these may push me over to the T150s.  Damnit.

Why would anyone make a club this ugly? They better perform because no one is buying them based on looks. Ping could get away with making a completely ugly club that performed in the past, but they shouldn’t have to do this now.

It’s a no for me, dog. 
 

i59 had phenomenal shape, could have been all-worlders. But Ping did obtuse things with the internals. i230 could have improved on the very few complaints of the i210s, and thrown in some iBlade heritage. But Ping did obtuse things with the grooves. i240 held so much promise. I guess the backplate oddities had to be up next.

I think that what some of us expect is that when PING does ugly it's for a reason.   Tech limitation or at the very least to highlight some tech.

 

G440 drivers have gotten cleaner at address than predecessors (yet, there's still the T-word on drivers...).

 

G440 irons are IMO the best looking G irons in... well ever.

 

Blueprints look good.   

 

I was worried they'd look like the iDI.  Well, they don't.  

 

Where most companies are making their use of carbon fiber (at least in woods) less in your face, this seems behind the trend.

 

Maybe there's a story there, but I fear they're going to have to be outstanding to compete.

Looks a little like my iE1 irons.  Don't mind the back,  pretty clean look.  And they went back to normal grooves,  likely to cut down excess spin the pros were complaining about.

But…to be clear…the i210 was PING latest winner (not counting blueprint-different category).  For the first time in 25 years, I am not gaming PING irons….which some close friends of mine would frown upon (who work for said equipment MFG)

I like the look at address (offset included) and they appear to have a deeper cavity than the i230 which would mean more forgiveness. I'm not a fan of the back but if they got close to the classic Ping cast iron feel, I am interested.

Too much offset, too much of a cavity, and the back is really ugly.

I kind of like the look the more I see them.  The carbon must have a purpose unless PING has gone way off the rails.   It seems that a lot of manufacturers are going to an understated hollow body or all silver look and PING is bucking that trend(maybe ill advised) with this iteration of the I series.  Give me a 45 degree pitching wedge and a 25 or so degree five iron and I’ll be happy.  The Zing2 is my all time favorite iron so I can’t say aesthetics are top priority for me.
