You seem to be assuming that it's just a sticker.  

 

Few if any of us know the story here.   If it's a piece in place to save weight, the piece is likely in place to provide some structural stability to the face.

 

If it's not just a sticker, it's likely removing it will affect feel, and not for the better.

i240 appear to have less grooves than the i230.  Looks to reduce spin but by how much?  S55 spun too much for me.  This may work for me.  Can't wait to give them a try.  Don't care much for the look on the back, only care what it looks likes from above.

 

Also curious to see if they'll add a larger list of free shaft upgrades...  One can hope.

Agreed. I find it crazy that they started upcharging for Project X. Not sure that any other OEM is really doing that and they used to stock it and no upcharge.

Because they suck to look at. They’re not going to drastically outperform the other irons in this category (P770, T150, MP243) so I wouldn’t even consider them an option at a fitting. I think this is the opportunity the P770s have been waiting for to become a major player in this category. The P770s were already gaining in popularity this year and now I believe that people who were waiting for the Ping release will either wait for the new 150s or just buy the 770s. The i240 will not sell well in this market.

I doubt it’s functionally different than the steel-colored badges that are used by everyone else in this category. I assume more info and explanation from Ping will come soon.

 

But I’ll reserve real judgement until I’m able to see and hit them in person. The i230’s felt great.

Badges are not structural. They move weight and change sound. If it was structural it would change these irons to hollow constructions. But these are not hollow irons.

Interesting. T100 and BPS I also really like feel-wise (not much "better" than i230, but different), but I'd pick i230 > P770 every day of the week

No one is saying they suck, people are saying they look tacky. 

 

The blueprints on the other hand a beautiful and perform. Some people want both from a premium set of irons. 

 

That should be understandable, aesthetics are important to some people. Most of WRX it seems.
