that orange vent though! yikes

This oddly explains the whole thread.

I’m actually less visually offended by the orange vent than the irons.

JK! 🍻

*ppl definitely overreacting to the irons (IMO of course). But I’m definitely not offended or surprised by the “faux outrage” over the “faux carbon” and design. At the end of the day this is just a silly/fun internet golf site and it’s just a golf club.

I’m jumping out there but these look much better to me than the i230 irons. This of course is looking at the address profile that I see when I hit shots. No ….. given about the back

Actually, what will happen is this:

1. First, Rick Shiels reviews them in a video entitled 'Are *these* the best overall irons of 2025?'

2. Then, Rick and a range of other reviewers will conclude that the Ping i240s offer excellent forgiveness, surprisingly good distance, and lower spin-but-higher launch

3. Next, a consensus will form: if you're a low to mid handicapper in the market for new irons, you definitely should consider and test out the i240s, along with the Srixon Zx5s and the Titleist 250s and the TM P790s etc etc

4. Later this year, one thread after another will pop up on golfwrx with a near endless variation of the same question being asked, ie 'For those who have tried both, how does the Ping i240 compare with the.....Zx5s / Titleist 250s / TM P790s / Blueprint Ss / Ping i210s / Ping s55s / Maltby TS4 / Tacoma 101T / Ping iblade

5. And, by the end of the year, the conclusion here at golfwtx will be: the i240s are some of the best irons Ping has produced in recent years, comparable to anything out there from the other OEM, and 'if you can get past the looks' they provide excellent forgiveness, surprisingly good distance, and lower spin-but- higher launch

6. And finally, some of us will say that they got past the looks and others will say that they couldn't get past the looks

Does that sound about right?

I'm going to start a new thread: "TherapyWRX - Please share the one (or dozen) iron that was so visually offensive in the bag that you could not play them and put them on the BST before removing the plastic wrap off the 9 iron."

What vehicle do you drive by the way?  The 240s are looking more like a Porsche.  Not everyone's cup of tea, yet people like them and they perform (plus carbon fiber).

Yeah, no.  As an owner of a GT4, I can say from experience these horrible fauxbon golf clubs don’t look anything like a Porsche.

I was immediately repulsed by the looks of the i240. I admit they are growing on me the more I see them. If they are even marginally better than the i240 than it’s a winner. I already fell for good looks and bought the p7cb. They are good but not as good as the current i230. I know they are slightly in a different category but I think real players can play both.

Here's a video which shows the shape of the iron.  To me the carbon looks more subtle, and a little reflective.  Love the shape of the iron.  Angular and less rounded.

I suspect the performance will be excellent, and the Nippon 115 as a stock shaft will be a great fit for the many aspiring tour pros frequenting the forum.

So the Porsche owners are upset and crying that Ping didn't design/market the aesthetics towards their elevated sense of style?  This is making more sense now.

Porsche and their customers have also made questionable aesthetic choices before.  Why stop with golf clubs?

Do a lot of distinguished GolfWRXers cross-shop game improvement, multi-material Pings, and compact, forged Pro S-3s?  Seems like a different market segment and target audience to me 🤔.

Honestly, I dig the look at address.  The toe is sharper, the offset is less pronounced.  I will give them a chance.

i240 looks shorter heel to toe and thinner soled than i230. Very nice.

Agree.

these should be/will be crossed shopped more with t150, king tour, p770 as they all similar in construction (multi material) and lofts, acknowledging the pings will likely have the largest footprint

i240 is not a game improvement iron. No, sir. It looks smaller than i230 which is popular with pros.

I’m liking this better as a Porsche thread! Reminds me…
Saw this one down in Carmel a while back. A lil “busy” for my taste. Not the next $400k car I’m buying. But no doubt a phenomenal automobile for the right person! 😊

IMG_8127.jpeg

RS with the Weissach package.  That’s how you do carbon fiber.

Not my taste though, and too much car for most buyers to really drive well in anger.

Haha

For sure, though there is a small community of hard core Porsche owners that capably track their cars.  But for every one car that winds up in those hands, nine more get driven (poorly) on the street.  Funny thing is that, for a very pretty additional penny, the Weissach package gets you the weight savings and bling of the carbon fiber roof and bonnet, and those magnesium wheels, yet most of those cars will be street driven where the performance benefits are zero.  It’s just bling blang.
