New Ping i240 irons - 2025 Memorial

What’ll be more telling in my opinion is how many LPGA Tour players move into the i240. The i230 has been much more popular for Ping’s pros there than it is on the PGA Tour.

Looking at the WITB on the Ping website, Lauren Coughlin is the only one playing them in multiple irons. A few PGA players have them in the 4 iron.

While I also don't love the carbon fiber, if there was one complaint about the i230 and i210, it's that the CGG was too high for some people.  This is probably a way to lower that CG.

And, with the Blueprint S, the i2XX series can go back to being more of the iron that anyone could play.

A shop I frequent got their fitting heads yesterday.  Fresh out of the wrapper I got to hit it this morning. They look good in person.  I like it. With a set of 210 and a newly purchased (a month ago) 230, I doubt this one is in my bag anytime soon.  However, it's always fun to try a new club.  Of the 3, I like the 210.  May have to let the 230 go while still new.

no discernable difference between the i230 and i240?

That’s interesting… my trajectory is considered a tad on the low side, nothing overly bad but never the less a tad low to the point I got fitted in to the pro v1x. I didn’t know the CG was on the high side.

I’m not sure what you are saying here but I can add some data after hitting them Thursday. Same shaft as my 230’s, Modus 105X. About 50 swings total. GCQuad.

i230 vs i240 (tried to look at strike location and swing as much as I could to do a half decent compare)

launch average: +0.4 (after std dev)

ball speed: +1.2mph

spin: -250rpm

the deviation on these was very tight, similar to the 230s.

FWIW, I had an easier time turning the 240s over, the 230s for me have always been a club that was more “right” than “left” for me

Feel/Sound: 240 feels closer to the BPS than to the 230. It’s more dense feeling than the 230, perhaps slightly less “soft”.

Looks: Could not really tell a difference at address. Perhaps slightly cleaner hosel transition, but looks like a Ping I series and basically looks like an i230.

I would say these will be very good for those who spun the 230s too much and lost too much distance. The face seems to be a bit quicker on this one. The biggest difference I noticed was on toe strikes, I think the 240s are extremely forgiving here compared to the 230s. Very little drop off.

Thank you for the data.  This is exactly what I want to hear.  I’ll certainly be grabbing a 4 and 5 iron when they launch.

I wasn't looking at a detailed comparison of the 240. I just recently purchased the i230 and I'm struggling to like them more than my 210s.  While chatting with the shop owner, he showed me the 240 and left me hit a few balls.  I tried a few shafts to see if something would click. Of the 3, I like my old 210s.

They sound pretty great. The left bias concerns me a hair as left pull is my miss of choice. I do launch the i230s relatively high (apex in the 115-120ft range w/ a 23.3º launch angle with 8 iron) so I wonder if I might get some more consistent distance out of these. My clubhead speed is mid to high 80s.

Some people / ping might want to show the irons go longer? Not sure.

I need as much spin as I can get esp from 7 irons and up.

I think relative to the i230 which had more grooves and some complained they spun too much due to this.  So less spin than the i230 not necessarily low spin.

This was why I (somewhat regrettably) switched to the Blueprint S. i230s wanted to go one direction — straight up with high spin. BPS is a definite improvement with better feel but I played better with the i230s overall. Sounds like i240 is an improvement in that regard, can’t wait to put in my order.

i230's power spec'd give some extra ball speed/more distance/less spin.  Grooves are just that, I'm sorry, but I don't buy into grooves on irons making any huge difference on anything besides marketing.  It's all about loft and a person's swing and delivery.  Without knowing anything about these new i240's, I suspect that they will be mighty close in performance to the i230 in general.  Askgolfnut on youtube will do a comparison I'm sure when they are released and basically will find the same results just like he did when comparing the i210's to the i230's.  Which is all good!

We shall see, I personally like these 240's, don't have a problem with the look at all.

It’ll really come down to if these are more “forgiving” than the BPS. I’m playing i525 and loving my game at the moment. Only thing that I cannot stand is that the feel is not great when hit well. I hope that these will be better feeling than the hollow body I currently use.

Can’t comment on the feel but without a doubt they will be more forgiving than the blueprint s just like the i230. These i2xx irons are positioned to be a tad easier to hit and higher launching vs the blueprints

Positioned and reality can often be unpredictable.

I guess so but if they stuff that up for these irons then ping will have a problem. Dont think these will deviate much from the i230s so I feel this assumption is safe.

let’s see. I’ll be trying them out later this month. Turns out there is a ping fitting event near me.

This is true, the BPS surprised me on how easy they were too hit. Not scary at all. Problem is it would take a couple rounds with each iron to really see what would work out long term.

28 on Carl's. But yes Ping shaft up charges are among the industry's worst. It's a joke in comparison to Srixon and Mizuno. I got fitted at one of the top independent fitters in Virginia last year and the guy kept saying, why would you not play a Japanese forging with any shaft you want for no upcharge vs a non forged head that cost the manufacturer 30 bucks and 30 or 40 dollar shaft upcharge all while paying more.
