New Ping i240 irons - 2025 Memorial

Recommended Posts

There is nothing in the pictures that would suggest that Ping has unlocked the holy performance grail and therefore looks will be unimportant.

Reality is that it will play somewhere between the best and worst performing i series irons over the past 20 years.  Nothing more, nothing less.

And will do it in an unattractive physical package.

I don’t think anyone would put new irons in the bag for a major. But no doubt they will be showing up in bags soon.

Do they put new Drivers, driver shafts, new wedges or putters in the bag? I guess thats why the Ping tour van is at the women's US OPEN.

LOL.  It has been less than one week.  Rare for there to be quick adoption of a new club.  Especially mid-season.

Remember the first pics of the i230 irons were in Tyrell Hattons bag and everyone was trying to zoom in on the pics to see the irons. Seem to remember it was a few weeks before any up close pics were released

I did type that it is "rare".  One example does not refute that, and is a perfect example of how "rare" it is.

It certainly appears to me this is a small badge intended to match the finish when new.  Go look at a used set of iE1's to see how this is going to look over time.

I'm sure these perform, but I'd much rather buy a modern i3 / i3+.  Dump the ferrule.  Add the toaster tech.  Tungsten plug instead of a screw on the toe.  i3+ sole width, bounce & offset.  Hydropearl could take it or leave it.

Think if Ping had either gone full into the carbon fiber look, or if they just had that match the finish of the rest of the iron, people wouldn't be complaining as much (still likely would complain as they simply aren't as aesthetically pleasing as the 230).

Still will wind up hitting them. Or maybe go crazy and do i530 long irons and Blueprint S in the short stuff because I can't help myself.

I feel ya!

I did an S/T combo bcs I couldn’t help myself. Such a cool set. Obviously not helping any on the bad strikes. But I seem to shoot about the same regardless of what type of irons I play. So 🤷🏼‍♂️

Per Ping's website, the i230 is sold out with limited availability for replacement of single irons only.

Maybe the brilliance here is they found a way to sell out their entire inventory of a 2 year old club in less than 48 hours? Genius!

Perhaps next week, they unveil the actual i240?

Wow I snuck order in at the buzzer.  I've got no regrets on waiting 2 years to order as I'm sure the price of i240 is higher than I paid for i230.  I'm finally into a shaft which better fits my swing and I've got a set of i210 to tinker with.  Win win.

One thing I really hate about Ping is the lack of warning when they’re killing a club.  They did it with the i210 and now again with the i230.  How hard would it be for them to publish an end date for orders so we got some lead time to purchase another set?  Also, how about having the new club on sale before you stop taking orders for the old club?

Serious question: can we still purchase i230's custom from ping, or is it too late?

I ordered mine today and prior to ordering i called ping…. The rep told me they will accept custom orders a few months after the release of the new i240 so your good to go….

All OEMs do this to move inventory, and lower risk of having leftover goods that need to be written off at a loss.  Business goals.

How would it result in leftover inventory if they just said, hey we’re stopping production in three months, get em now while you can?  I would expect they’d actually sell MORE clubs that way, as many of us who love them would buy a new set before they’re gone.  I would think that the risk would be potentially losing a few sales of the new club to the old club, but that seems like a small price to pay to keep your long time loyal customers happy.  Just magically one day saying ‘no more soup for you’ is a pretty crappy way to do business IMO.

And again, at the very minimum, why not start sales of the new club the same day that you announce cessation of the last one?  Remember how long it was between them killing the i210 and actually selling the i230?  I needed clubs and had to wait almost nine months to order the i230s.

Sorry, but you’re saying Ping is telling you today that they will accept an order for a full set of i230’s made to spec?

They also want to maximize sales on the new club that will be released.  They forecast runs of manufacturing to maximize revenue/sales over the life cycle of the product.  Sometimes they run out early, and sometimes not.  Clearing out inventory with maximum profit is better than sitting on and writing off unused inventory.

Happy to discuss business and golf further in another thread.  This has been turning into a Ping bashing thread...as is tradition with any new Ping release.

Literally the first thing that came to my mind & not in a good way.

Huge ping iron/wedge/putter player and will be likely forever too so I am biased in their favor!

Yeah. I’m reserving judgement, but it feels to me that they took the worst-received I-series irons of the last twenty years (the iE1), made it uglier, and will presumably raise the price. I’m a huge Ping fan, but I’m not liking the looks of these so far.

To be fair, I said the same about the G430s and almost bought a set last week. Time will tell.

I also suspect that a couple of other things are at play.  First they probably have reached to to tour staff still in the current model trying to find out if they intend to move to the new model or stick with the i230, and may set aside some heads accordingly.   They also probably set some aside for warranty and individual club replacements.

I would think however that of whatever is left, it should be available for custom order as long as the shafts can be had.

Really curious to see how these perform versus the previous 2 generations.  Always been a huge I2XX fan, have played them all since the I200, hopefully the 240’s will continue the lineage, if not then the new set of I210’s I just snagged will hold me over till the next iteration.

The iE1 was a welcome change in my opinion.  The fact that they were not plated after having problems with peeling on the prior generation was a plus.

I am not saying iE1 had any problems but they weren’t the best feeling + looking and had a decent bit of offset. They also blended the worst with any ‘S’ series (well.. Iblade at the time) when you put them together as a combo.

While i20/25 had their issues with plating, they are far better feeling and looking to this day. They also looked like the same design language as S56/55

Iblade, I200 and i210 are leaps ahead of those clubs though in my book & the gold standard of pings ‘I’ + ‘S’ series players clubs

Ping cant win in the I series...they make the most beautiful irons in the i59 that nobody bought and they make ugly irons that work....which many people wont play.

Not sure I agree with this. I59 isn’t really the iron ping guys wanted & they quickly realized that.

i200, 210, & 230 are super successful irons and some of the most played i series clubs on the LPGA/PGA tours from my personal memory.
