I’ve been pumped to grab these and replace my i525. Love them but I want to have some more consistent gapping/ less fliers in a similar package. I showed the pics to my boss who’s a scratch guy and never even heard of WRX - said the irons looked great and quote “like pings” so I don’t get y’all that seem to LOATH these!

Personally, I believe that these will be great performing irons and continue the legacy "I" series attributes of consistency just like all of the prior's.  These don't look half as bad as the i20's which were ugly as all get out, not to mention some of the others.  But people bought them, played them, loved them.  These will be the same in my opinion, plus I am willing to bet that they look a hell of a lot better in person.  That little piece on the back that everybody is freaking out over is just crazy.  If you want totally clean forged cavity's go to Srixon, Bridgestone, JDM...etc...

Let's see what happens in a few months...

Hopefully PING is debating a badge insert re-design prior to release. (they should)

When you've got ZXi7 irons with their pure design aesthetic winning nearly every event on tour (JJ Spaun US Open, Keegan Bradley Travellers Championship, Sepp Straka Truist Championship,  Andrew Novak in the Zurich team event one week after losing the Verizon Heritage playoff) ...

...and the ZXi7 is contending for iron-of-the-year AGAIN in the golf communities, and they're essentially the same class of club as the i240, PING better make sure their imminent release is competitive and doesn't have any unnecessary cheesiness.

Keegan doesn’t play the Zxi he still plays  the MKii’s

I should step back, I do GET why WRX hates them. The contrast between this forum and regular golfers (normies as some one put it lol) is still wild to me!

I wouldn't say it's a contrast.   It's like all parts of current life... those that are really, really into something, whether it be cars, music, politics, or golf gear, are the ones that to find a place to discuss it.

Typically, the most vocal on a topic are those that really dislike it or really love it.   Most that don't have a strong opinion don't bother with it.

Go to a car/truck group and the parallels should be immediately evident.

I don’t think he was saying it’s unusual to have a website like this or that it doesn’t exist in other “hobbies”.
Just that the difference between most here and the average player is pretty big. And based on my experience, I agree.

Just like the differences/gap between the guys on a tuner car website compared to the avg person that just drives a car.
Back in my 💣 squad and GO days I would get grouped w/ppl and start some equipment talk and they would look at me like I had 2 heads! 😂

I remember all the negative reactions when the G440 driver spy pic dropped. G440 releases and it all went away. Now G440 might be one of the classier driver lines for 2025. Very curious, this thing called human behavior.

I wonder if there's a new wedge coming out also because every store I go to has very limited selection of S159.

Additionally the G430 10k have all been marked off $150 and are nearly sold out everywhere.

Right? And why do equipment junkies always want the new model to look exactly like the old one? Just buy the old one. Problem solved.

1. Aesthetics and sound are important to better players.

2. "Junkie" don't want the new one to look like the old one in 95% of equipment cases (see the new gorgeous T100 whose release is looming?) . Nobody here wants the new drivers to look or sound like the older G425.  But in this unique case, the i230 was a good looking golf club followed by a cheesy design.  So there is head scratching in this thread.  Rightfully so.

3. PING no longer offers the i230 for purchase.  So problem NOT solved.

When is the pre order date!

No idea but for the I-series clubs, it used to be in September back when the i20/i25, iei, and i200 released.  They may have chaged that.

Once something is unveiled, there are going to be the hot takes on appearance -- that often because the teaser photos are the only thing revealed.

I think the reason "it all went away" is because most of those that don't like the looks enough that they aren't buying aren't going to spend a lot of time in those threads.   Which probably is best for all parties.

The real "problem" is continual iterative design when the OEM's have conditioned the market to expect new AND improved product on an unrealistic schedule.

If an OEM doesn't change the design enough there's no excitement. If they change it too much there's a different sort of complaining.

In terms of pure performance the needle hasn't moved in a long time. So the OEM's are faced with emphasizing looks, feel and sound as "improvements." Comparing the results generated by the clubs in the players' hands is almost always a dead heat from one season to the next.

I'd say that in order to pay their bills and satisfy their shareholders, OEMs need to roll out new products on a regular schedule, which in turn drives the product release cadence.

yes and ping should be applauded for having a slower release cycle than the Callaways of the world.  I think Ping is a privately held company.
