They look fine. I don’t love it and I don’t hate it. But what does the carbon do?  Weight redistribution?  Feel?  It’s not like them to do something for purely aesthetic reasons.

That's why I said looks AND performance. No reason you can't make a good looking,  performing iron. These may end up the best Ping irons to date, but if you can't stand to look at them.....

How on earth does Ping go from the beauty below to this hideous new club in one refresh cycle?  And why put a bigger cavity on this model?  When I look at my 230s and then at this new club, it makes me sad.

These look like an I series iron.  Every time ping releases an I series iron wrx hates it. Too much offset, too wide of a sole, too big of a cavity. I thought an I series is supposed to be in between the s or blueprint and the g series and that's what these look like.

Haven’t read a single complaint about offset, sole width or cavity size.
Maybe pages 7-15 will cover all that 🤷🏼‍♂️

The happiness I had when seeing i240 photos were out… was quickly squashed with how ugly the back of these look.

 

I was eagerly awaiting a set of 240’s to replace my 230’s- in all honesty.. I’m sure I’ll still buy a set.

 

the carbon fiber is terrible… but it’s ping so I am wondering what genuine engineered reason they have it there for… and most importantly what do these things feel and perform like when hit?

 

until i get to test… fingers crossed they cover up the carbon with a cleaner look

Many of us have reacted badly, it's true. But I think part of it is i) the genuine surprise that, after the unadorned & appealing & well-received aesthetics of the 230/210 and Blueprints and i59s and iBlades etc, Ping would go back to this kind of 'utilitarian functionality' in a non-GI iron, and ii) the reality that looks and performance wise both, in their better player irons Titleist and Srixon and Mizuno and TM have been hitting it out of the park with the visual simplicity (and clean un-engineered lines) of their recent offerings, and so an iron that doesn't fit that mold stands out unattractively even more. If I'm paying $2000+ for a set of irons, I want them to look good  *all of the time*, ie on the golf course over the ball, in the trunk of my car as I reach for them before my round, as I lovingly clean and polish them at the end of the season, and as they sit there in the corner of the office neatly in a Ping Hoofer Lite and all in order, peaking their little heads a 1/2 inch one over the other from 4 iron down to PW.

These are simply golf club "aesthetics" that can easily be fixed by a sticker or magic marker if inclined to do so.  Or don't buy them, and look elsewhere.  Most on here have multiple sets of irons, and have accepted/viewed various club design themes over the years. 

 

Good job, Ping.  Color me intrigued.

Aesthetics is about the only thing different from any manufacturers new and previous released clubs. It's all marketing, these new clubs won't go any further (unless they jack the lofts) or straighter that the previous ones.

Definitely looks like a bit of a throwback i series iron - a mix of i25 and iE1.

Because they keep trying so hard. This is like a kid leaving dungeons and dragons telling you a new awesome style. Just make them like a white guy in his 50’s with an Indian Jones hat, cargo shorts and new balances….. just plain Jane. What we have here is that… but with a tie dye socks and pink hair. It is just wrong.  I understand ugly over function after all the fat girls in my life….. but no need to add the carbon and Joe dierte it up.

As the performance will likely be incremental gains, I‘ll pass and stick with my i230s. That carbon in the cavity kills the clean look. Otherwise it’s similar I think (profile, offset…)

 

Not really sure why they stop making them look cleaner and opt for that badge…

Big swing and miss, IMO.

 

Have played most of the Ping i-series irons. The i210 was the best for me, the i230 is a pretty good second. 

 

These, I will not purchase.

Would be interesting to see these in person because they do look nice at address from the pics. The offset that is setting folks off appears to be in the 3, 4 & 5 irons, once it hits the 6 - PW it calms down a lot.

So it is hardened and much harder than the 8620 blueprints are made from. Also the tuning is sound deadening. It helps but doesn’t fully bridge the gap to the actual softer steels that naturally sound like that. Also with ear muffs on some people can actually tell the difference. When I practice at the sim I have AirPods in.
