Laurie Aucherlonie Persimmon Set...Help

I found a set of persimmons that look to be Laurie Aucherlonie. 1/2/3/4/5 woods are in the set, shafts are TT made in England. Does anyone know anything about these clubs regarding value and history? I can't find any sold comps on eBay in the last 3 years. I've only been able to find a little bit of history on the man himself but not much else on the clubs. Any help would be much apricated.

I think you've pretty much covered it. This Laurie, born in 1904, was the last of the Auchterlonie dynasty of clubmakers and Professionals at St Andrews. I guess the history will tell you he was clubmaker to the R&A and had a shop in the town.

Not to be confused with the earlier Laurie Auchterlone born half a century earlier and sought fame and fortune in the USA after leaving his St Andrews home.

Nice clubs, value, well it's a toss up.  The market is flat and getting flatter with less discretionary disposable income around and the collectors of 20th century nostalgia dropping off the hook. The only way you'll know is to put them in a specialist auction with your reserve price.

I have the 1, 2 & 3 woods of that model, the shaft bands on mine are early True Temper Pro-Fit so I'd say mine date to the early 1960s. 

 

The Mastercraft model ran for many years with variations in the design, I think the iron that goes with our woods is that in the picture below.
