1. Mostly a 4i TCB or UT, but this year I'm trying the GT3 4H and 5H after some testing to gap between the irons and woods.

2. I can approach with 3W when pressed, or typically the Apex UW up to 250 since it's like a 7W.

3. Tight tee shots will be 3W, UW or 2i UT depending on course, conditions and bag setup.

This part of the bag is tricky because that 20* loft can be influenced by so many factors like CG, length and shaft weight.  You've got to find an option that gives you the ability to hit all the shots, or at least most of them, with some degree of control from distance.

I am very familiar with those "or" notes in you bag signature. I agree completely that this is undoubtedly the trickiest spot in the bag but also one of the most important. It's the requirement to hit off the turf, from poor lies, and be able to approach greens that makes this range have so many options.

I played a Ping iCrossover for some time and was very happy with it. Over the last year it was all Apex UW 21. And now I've switched over the Triple Diamond 7w. These three seem to constantly play musical chairs for a spot in the bag.

@musicman1951 I've found 3.5 degrees is the minimum difference I need in fairway woods to gap appropriately. When using the same line of 5w and 7w, they just don't carry with enough difference to justify. I prefer a 5w over a 4w, but only with the 4w do I gap nicely from the 7w. If I were to go 4i or driving iron at ~20 degree spot, I would go straight to 5w after.

Mine is a 21 degree Callaway UW. I call it my 4 Hybrid. But in tight spots I hit my 5W or 3W depending on how far I can hit the ball but I hit both dead straight so they are very dependable.

This spot in my bag is currently vacant. I could loft my 5w back up to 20°, but I found that it could get eaten up by wind at that setting. Right now the closest is a sub70 hybrid. I think part of the thing missing for me, is I might be looking for a bit of a unicorn, with my budget. I'd like a gi style hybrid with some adjustability at around 20°. I'm sure some newer releases have that, but nothing I've really seen.

Been between a 4h, driving iron, and a p790 4i.  So far the 4h seems to be the winner.  I can hit the 4h anywhere from 190 to 215, totally comfortable punching it or airing it out.  I've hit shots with a punch 4h that I never could with either of the irons.

Really wanted a 7wood to work out if it would go a bit further than the 4h(21*). I borrowed a ltdx max turned down to 21 and put an  x shaft in, it was just hooky moon balls. Sticking  with King tec down to 20* with weight back to get as close to 220 carry

Probably need a normal 5wd instead but my ltdx ls 5wd is my only fairway and favorite club

4 hybrid. Love the club and hit it much better than any 7 Wood I've come across.

I typically play 4i (23*), 7W (21*) and 3w (15*). I’ll throw in a 2 iron at 18* sometimes. Either replacing the 7 wood, going from a 46-50 to a 48 or just playing 15 clubs because wtf do I care about following the rules for a casual round. Rarely hit the 2 iron off the turf but will with any other club up to 3w.

4i and 7W are a full like 15 yard difference between each other. 225 vs 240ish carry. The two iron is pretty similar to the 7 wood carry wise. Maybe out to 250 on pure shots. 3 wood is typically 265 carry. It’s a bit weird since even in par 5s I’m long enough to rarely have to hit shots 200+ into greens. Albeit I play some shorter courses.

I haven’t really figured out how I actually want to structure the top of my bag though. So it’s a little in flux.

I have an older 22° U500 4 iron with a hybrid shaft. I’ll replace it with the new T250 soon.

Next longest is either 2 iron or 5 wood. Currently 5 wood. That’s the “must get tee shot in play” spot in the bag.

I’m comfortable hitting mini driver on approaches if there isn’t too much trouble around the green.

Either a 19-degree 2 utility, or a 19-degree wood. I call it a 4-wood, but whatever that is in modern parlance.

Over the lears I've favoured long irons, but it's now more of a 50/50 situation. In summer, I still prefer having an iron in my mitts.

This is the trickiest spot  I have been in for some 5 years now with all the new tech coming out.
I struggle with 230-245 number.

I have tried multiple different shafts/head combos.

My favorite as of now is actually a 913H 19* with a ventus blue HB Velocore 9x shaft, a u500 3 iron ( the new utility irons are so chunky looking and have a weird offset to them). Ive tried the 7 wood and I love the height and the stopping power but when the wind gets gusting I was struggling with controlling the spin.

Definitely want to grab one with maybe a ventus red shaft and see if I can get it cooking.

I use a 19 degree 5 wood (old Cleveland Launcher TI). Its very similar to a 7 wood. It has a very small head for a fairway wood. It flies very high and can land on soft greens and stay if I hit it accurately. Then I have a 24 degree Cleveland CG4 Cavity Back, very very thick topline. Its a standard 4 iron (24 deg) that I reshafted with a kuro kage black stiff at 1/2 inch longer than a normal 4 iron as a driving iron. I think I regret shafting for iron and should've opted for a 4i hybrid instead. The distance different between the titanium 19° wood and the driving 4 iron with graphite shaft is around 20 yards. But if I end up getting a hybrid 4 then I'll just have the same gap issues with my five iron. It always seems like 15 clubs should be absolutely perfect and it's so frustrating having to choose one club to get rid of.

This has been the rotating spot in my bag, but since I picked up a 21* Apex UW, I seldom take it out of the bag.  Depending on the course, I previously swapped between a 20* U505 utility, Tour Edge C722 19* hybrid, or Mavrik 5w 18*.  The UW is a great fit for this spot in my bag and keeps the flight lower than the 5wd (or a 7wd) but gives me the control of the u505 on tee shots.  It may fly a bit lower than the hybrid, but it fits what I was looking for in a transition club quite nicely,.

Top of bag goes -

1. Driver - Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max 10.5 lofted to 12.5 & 44.25" playing length

2. Cleveland Halo XL Hy-wood 18* (OG version) 41.25" playing length

3. Titleist TSR 1 20* in A4 setting playing 22* and 39" playing length

TSR1 20* is a new club to the bag and only played 3 rounds with it, but it has easily becoming a weapon at my home course.  Great off tee and able to hit it off deck with ease.
