I agree.  He is clearly the best player in the world but the lack of emotion, especially on the big par saves, is hard to watch.  I fully understand he's not an emotional player and he needs to do what he needs to do to win but lets not forget this is entertainment.  He just seems bored out there.  It also stinks the tour is split with LIV.  Hard to gauge how good Scotty is actually playing with 3-4 top players not on tour week to week.

I still think the majors are the best way to determine who the top players are in the world. And right now the top 3 is Scottie, Rory, and Bryson. Outside of Bryson, no one from LIV has consistently been in contention at the majors like Scottie and Rory have and I don't think you can say "Oh the LIV guys aren't playing enough for it to be a fair comparison." If you count the majors, the LIV guys are playing in their 10th event of the season this week. Scottie's played 12 events so far this season and Rory's making 10th start this week in Canada. Per DataGolf Scottie is gaining 3.09 shots per round on the field which is 0.96 shots better then the next guy. Out of the top 50 in the data golf ranking there's 7 LIV guys: Bryson, Rahm, Niennman, Hatton, Reed, Herbert, Ortiz. There's 2 players at most currently missing from the tour and its not like they're cleaning up on liv either

If Scheffler was club twirling, fist pumping, and cursing after shots, WRXers would be condemning him for that and demanding that the PGAT suspend him for not acting like he's been there before.

Guy wins 9 times in 2024 (including a gold medal), 3 times in 2025 after a vicious hand injury. And WRxers complain about him being boring.  🤣🤣

No, we wouldn't. At least not the same people who claim that he's a bit boring, like myself. I would love him to show a bit more fire out there.

whoever thinks watching great golf is boring probably blasts music on the course

I love watching the greatness of scheffler and the theatrics of spieth

all together its worth watching

tryrell hatton was fun to watch blow up when he was around but now hes unwatchable

You couldn't be more wrong about that when it comes to at least one person (me) who finds him a bit boring. I love watching great golf. But I prefer to watch great golf that is more entertaining than the way he plays and carries himself. I like more drama in my "sportstainment." And there's nothing wrong with that.

The argument is not necessarily that it’s boring. It’s that it’s more boring than other great players.

That is fine but we have not seen someone play like this since Tiger. Other guys have had fun runs but nothing that compares to this... I like that he is authentic and is not trying to become someone he isn't.

1. he’s not on prime tiger’s level. That would be 4 straight majors, for starters.

2. agree with you. But we have to try to find fault with everything, that’s what we do here.

Ok….what makes Rory more exciting? Or any other top player?  You name them and say what makes them exciting.

A thought added.  Is he “boring” because he so rarely messes up?

The best and most glaring example was this year’s PGA Championship. Bryson makes a great shot and he’s getting pumped - you could see and feel the emotion because of what was on the line. He’d go through the crowd to the next tee high fiving every little kid lining the gallery. When he made a bad shot he wasn’t throwing tantrums but the look of utter frustration on his face told a story all by itself. You could feel the pressure and see the determination. He behaved like a true sportsman and simply watching his reactions is what gave it soul, and made watching it exciting even when he didn’t have much of a chance to win. Then there was Scottie, his face frozen like a mannequin whether things were going good or bad, never looking at the fans or even acknowledging they existed. And that’s fine, he can do what he wants, but that’s why most people say he’s a snore whether they watch YT golf or not.

i will never understand how amazing golf only equals the scorecard / leaderboard result and not the golf thats actually being shown

I agree on that point.  When I watch sports I want to see emotion and the winning team celebrate a great shot or touchdown etc..  I want to see how fired up they are.  Sports is the entertainment business after all.

One thing that I don't think gets talked about that often is how frustrating it must be for the top, top guys who are over at LIV to watch Scottie run away with all these big events and get talked about as the best player since Tiger. Yes, they got paid and are in the majors but these guys are pro athletes that have been trying to prove to themselves and the world that they are the best since they were teenagers. They want to validate their own ego and talent (I don't mean that in a negative way), but they literally can't except for 4 times a year. That's got to be extremely frustrating.

Dude, you're tilting at windmills here. You might as well ask what makes a band or movie "good" or "not good." If you can't see, that on a continuum of "exciting players" on one end and "not exciting players on the other, SS is in the middle and/or leaning toward the boring side, I'm not going to try to convince you. Why would I? It's like trying to convince someone that "blue is a more boring color than orange."

You’re right 100%.  Rory can take lines most won’t try.  And he’s often successful but sometimes not and it bites him in the…. So I guess I’m a boring golf fan which makes it not boring because it works.  The best golf I saw Tiger play was when he went into the mode where he knew deep down the worst he could shoot was 68. So he played conservatively and went into park avoidance mode. Like in the final round at Pebble in 2000.  Was it fun to watch some of the shots he was able to hit? Of course. Was it fun to hear the absolute dripping awe Feherty had on some shots.when following him on the course?  Of course.  But those were not necessarily the best days Tiger had.  Scheffler is attempting, and frankly succeeding, at playing a modern version of Hogan golf.  Much more stress free playing.  It must be frustrating to play against him because you know deep down he’s not going to mess up.
As others have said I find great golf exciting.  Doesn’t need to be a swashbuckling style for me to enjoy.

Totally agree. If he wins one of the remaining two majors, I think we'll see a lot jumping on the bandwagon.

*Maybe we'll nickname him the robot or the machine.

FWIW, I'm already on the bandwagon of being a fan of his play and loving to watch him do his thing and win.

I just find both him and the way he plays/carries himself to be on the boring side.

But him winning another major will, in no way, make me feel like he's a more "exciting" player.

Earl Anthony won a lot when he bowled. He was not exciting to watch.

I think people want to watch crazy shots who are bad drivers off the tee... Like Phil Mickelson or Seve were...

They’d like to watch arguably worse golf because it’s more exciting?🤯
