Bryson, who right now is by far the best player of the three, has won a total of 3 LIV events (lol) and one major that Rory gifted him since June 2022. In that same time period, Scottie has 12 PGA tour wins including two majors and two players, as well as countless top 5's and top 10's.

Bryson is a really good player, but Scottie is in a completely different class. Rahm is a shell of his former self and Koepka's game is in shambles. Neither of them would be competitive on tour right now.

A shell? Rahm and Bryson are ranked right next to each other on Data Golf's overall ranking and Rahm's stats are will in line with his good years. He's only a small tick down from his #1 stretch.

Agreed about Brooks though, he's been in a pretty steady decline year over year since his peak in 2018.

Good point. The tour is lacking star power. Who do they have: Scotty, Rory, and? No one. Pretty boring.

They are there but at the moment they are essentially out of sight this year for the most part just scraping cuts or following up decent first/second rounds with crap.

I’m looking at Hovland, Hideki and Thomas - dudes that can steamroll the field with a final round 63 stomping around like Godzilla and shooting lasers from their butts - but they aren’t.

Then you’ve got the Xander, Morikawa, Spieth, Aberg bunch, not exactly essential viewing to many but they get it done with a certain cool when they are on - but they aren’t on. Good ol fairway Jesus, he’s popular but you can just pencil him in for a token backdoor top 10 without seeing more than one or two shots over 4 days. And Fowler, well that’s been spoken about many times.

European players are generally more fun to watch because they tend to express more emotions. Americans feel very "media trained" and only say things that people expect them to say. Also, I notice a stark difference in the Ryder cups - eg, the 2023 European Ryder Cup team was a joy to watch, it felt like a bunch of close friends or family playing together and having fun, and the Americans felt very robotic.

Just my two cents.

It's golf and he's (personality wise) a normal golfer so it's a little boring by its very nature but personally I don't find it boring at all. He's a likeable guy without being overly saccharine like some of the guys who cry every time they are interviewed. Most importantly he's a truly phenomenal golfer kind of like Tiger without the explosiveness.

I think this season so far has been one of the best in a while. Given the current golf landscape everyone connected to the PGA Tour must be absolutely delighted.

Totally agree. If he wins one of the remaining two majors, I think we'll see a lot jumping on the bandwagon.

*Maybe we'll nickname him the robot or the machine.

People love sports bandwagons for sure, and if he gets another major I’m sure you’ll be right. That may also get him to a point where he can maybe focus a little more on his image. We’ve seen it before where athletes have completed changed public perception of them. It’s not like the bar for golf is that high either. Just relax and show some enthusiasm. Put a little effort into engaging with fans, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the PGAT has people available to help with this exact thing since it’s in their best interest too.

That is recency bias if you are referring to his person-to-person media interaction. He’s great now, but in his prime he gave you nothing 💩 and was good at giving you nothing.

If you mean Tiger’s entire brand persona, worldwide fame outside of golf, etc…all in the era before social media….yes, Tiger and his team were Jedi masters.  (Of course you have to have the 🐐 playing the game to even begin to do that too.)

yea, I agree. He wasn't always like that though, had to start protecting himself when he got to Michael Jordan status. Bryson seems to be trying the media route.

Coming to this late but it's a funny one. 20 years ago I heard old guys level the same at Tiger and his dominance. I thought they were mad. Couldn't understand it. Now that people are saying it about Scottie I hear it and I am minded to agree. I take two things from that, one different people have different perspective and two, I guess I am now old!

This is cope. Tiger's personal issues were a huge story because Tiger was captivating, not the other way around.

No, it's highlighting the sophomoric position taken that the entertainment value of a player's golf is somehow enhanced or diminished by what they do before/after executing a shot or away from the course. If you need theatrics or tabloid headlines to be entertained then look elsewhere for your dopamine hit, but let's not pretend Scheffler or the way he plays the game are at fault for that.

If I am in the mood to watch perfection, I tune into the Scheffler marquee/featured group stream.  If I want entertainment and excitement, I tune into the Jordan Spieth stream.

All depends on my mood.  Watching Scottie is a clinic in precision.  I will say it was fun watching R4 of the Memorial to watch Ben Griffin pull out all the stops to try and catch him.

I mean LIV only has like 4 competitive players: Rahm, Bryson, Niennman, and Hatton. And the only one of those 4 who’s somewhat interesting is Bryson

Come on, Rahm is interesting, isn't he?

IMO, it had to be boring watching Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel in Rome, but it was and is beautiful to look at. Same with Scotty Scheffler on a golf course. He is a master at his craft, why are people bored watching him?

We. Are. Not. Bored.

To many of us, he is MORE boring than certain other elite players, past and present.

This isn't hard guys.

100%.......

Apparently, making history is not enough, you have to have the histrionics to go with it. 🤣

A touring Pro in his full stride without showing emotion is no longer entertaining to some.

Like other said, I want to see more emotions haha.

I made my first eagle from back tee a few weeks ago and I probably screamed and fistpumped more than Scotty doing after winning the Masters.

Emotions like Tiger showed are contagious and a part of why he got such a big following, outside of being the best of the best obviously.

Edit: Its also a part of why Bryson is getting a bigger following. He said himself he portrayed an uptight guy before because he didnt expect people wanting emotions and when he did, he blew up on social media.

People want to relate to something, even if its a fistpump.

Correct, and we're saying that a player's histrionic does not entertain us; we appreciate the golf excellence more.

I’m really curious what the handicap distribution is for folks who feel  “Scheffler is boring and/or more boring than other elite golfers throughout history” and the folks who feel “great golf, even if executed in a methodical, stoic way, is exciting, period.”

There’s a concept in sport of “being good enough to know how bad you are.” In golf, a 25 handicap literally has no way of conceiving how good a tour pro is. Sure, they can see the shots on tv. They can see the scoring differential. But when it comes to the actual difficulty and skill involved in doing it at that level, they’re not good enough to even begin to truly understand. These players “are so low on the mountain, they can’t see the top.”

Versus, for sake of argument, a scratch player might see glimpses of what tour players do regularly and with ease. Maybe they’ve shot 65. Maybe they executed staggeringly difficult shots, reading lies, catching perfect contact, seeing the ball land in a tiny circle to pull off a shot. These players are “far enough up the mountain to see how far away they really are from the top.”

My hypothesis (not a criticism) would be the more someone is in group one, the more Scheffler is boring. And the more someone is in group two, the more they *could* but not necessarily *will* find Scheffler exciting/awe-inducing.
