Oh I can not EE.. when I don't, the swing feels out to in to me but as long as a keep the club behind me..by feeling like I start downswing w hips, and keep shoulders closed, I hit it much more solid.  I toy around w different swings or swing thoughts,  even mid round.

Larry Rinker is okay w it as part of his upper core model.

There is a massive elephant in the room when it comes to how Larry talks about this that i've kinda ranted about before and it's what he says at 0:20 there..."we've shifted, we've rotated, and now we stand up". A VAST majority of players that struggle with early extension aren't doing this. They haven't shifted, they haven't rotated, and they stand up because they are stuck and HAVE to. There is a world of difference between shifting/pivoting correctly and simply *not* getting your hips super open, and shifting pivoting incorrectly + throwing your trail side out towards the ball and early extending because you're forced to. The former is a viable way to play golf that *still* relies on a fundamentally sound pivot/pressure shifting sequence. You see this in guys like Louis Oosthuizen, Chris Kirk, Tyrell Hatton etc. The latter is failing to pivot correctly and being forced to compensate, which you won't see anyone on tour doing.

Exactly. Scottie massively loads his front side and *ejects* himself backwards away from the ball to such extent that the Scheffler Shuffle was born. If you're going to look at Scottie's address position then you have to consider *how* he makes that work. If you gave his address position the lower body move of say, Louis Oosthuizen, you'd likely never know his name.

What Scottie does is he has kind of a reverse pivot at the top, his upper body gets a little in front of his hips. He starts to unwind his upper body from there but has to stall it or he would be majorly over the top. So he then pushes with his right foot a ton to slide his hips and brings right foot back to hit from the inside and more shallow.

If you’re out to in how is the club behind you?

As valtiel points out there’s a big difference between what Larry is ok with/saying and what amateurs who EE do.

Totally different perspective to what many would coach here, he talks a lot in videos about how the Rose type swallowing moves are making most amateurs worse

Here's a drill that has worked for me.  With your club being at the 6 o'clock (back) position of the ball at address, try to hit the ball at its 9 o'clock position on the downswing.  Literally try to hit the ball sideways.  You'll never be able to actually do it, but it will result in your butt lowering and get rid of the early extension and give you a nice inside to out downswing.

Not knocking this drill, it may help for many people, but as an early extender myself, the way that I would try to “hit the ball from the inside” is to stand up, drop my right shoulder and try and swing to right field.  Disaster ensues.

Again, this may work for some players, but I went to a coach 7-8 years ago who wanted me to hit the ball at the 8 o’clock position (on the ball), and it made things much worse after a while.

the rose drill is it making amateurs worse?

He has quoted it in loads of his other videos, I have watched a fair few this week. Refreshing way of thinking about it for me. He's really against holding that right shoulder back and dropping

So, point to where he's said it. If he's said it "loads" and you've watched "a fair few" this week, point to them. I'm not saying you're making it up, I'm just saying that it's reasonable to ask you to post links to them so we can view that part and look at it.

Yeah I don't have the time or energy to go back looking through videos for this, I could be there all day. I just quoted something he has said on his videos, its up to you if you want to explore his content further (as he has a lot of content).

I referenced the Rose drill in passing as I was posting a link to a video which has a different take on early extension. I would focus on that as relevance for this topic more than my summary of what this teacher is about.

This guy goes against a lot of what you, Monte etc would probably teach based on what I have read in the forums. If I come across it again I'll post a link. You would likely find references to it in his videos where he talks about the need to pull the handle out in the downswing.

I think you're assuming a lot to say "what I teach" because… I teach the student in front of me. I've had to teach something similar to what he's talking about to people.

I mean, Justin is a little more out than some, but…

hmmmmmm.jpg.b99d1768ca51cde02dbb61574015e465.jpg

Also, nobody actually swings like this:

hmmmmm2.jpg.023491889b631e96a9ff37d7f0a4cd96.jpg

So he's pitching feels, because you don't make your hands go "out/forward" and then down like that. Might be a feel that works for some (and goodness knows I've used it), but the context is… if you're swinging too far out.

Most amateurs don't have that issue. They have the opposite, which is where a Justin Rose type drill/feel comes in handy.

Also, I don't use the Justin Rose stuff much for EE.

Weirdly, I hit the ball much better by literally trying to hit it sideways (i.e., at 9 o'clock) than I do by trying to hit it at 8 o'clock or 7 o'clock.  By trying to hit it sideways, it forces me to stay down and move my butt backwards to get enough space.  Maybe it's something that just works for me, and I'm fine with that.  The downside is that I lose a little distance and it's kind of tough on my back.  Ergo, I don't do it all the time, only when my swing has gone to hell and I need recalibrate, to get the feel of an in to out path back.
