Titleist 680 Iron Re-release

Whats the difference between the 690s and 680s? I have a set of the original 680s, but my game isn't quite there yet to game them

I had a new set of the 690MB's when they came out. I was nowhere near good enough then (or now) to play blades, but they were very playable, felt great, and were not visually intimidating - the head sizes were fairly generous and they had a bit of offset if memory serves. I replaced them with a set of 690.CB's.

I've still got a set of the 2018 re-release in the plastic, one of the best irons ever made.

I'd like to know more about the foundry and the grooves.  Oft-discussed topic, either Endo or Hoffman.

If these are just a cash grab by Titelist , simply forging the current MB, but in a vintage shape, then it's much ado about nothing.  The 680 were special for a couple reasons.

"Bottom line

The raw heads for the Titleist 680 MB blades were NOT made in-house by Titleist at all; they were outsourced to Endo Manufacturing Co. Ltd. —the renowned forging house in Niigata, Japan that also produces EPON and many other high-end JDM and tour-issue irons.

681 MB (retail 2001-03) – forged in the U.S. by Hoffman; some Tiger “T-stamp” sets had Endo forgings mixed in."

This.   I'm very curious if that will ever be disclosed (I hope it is).  Lets hope it not a cash grab....

I tried to weasel some information out of Titleist and they weren't able to provide me details on the exact specific of the manufacturing side.  However, Sam over at equipment said that they were manufactured the exact same way as the 15th year anniversary model that were released in 2018?

The key is to be left-handed, they don't make anything fun for us.

Titleist has always been pretty good with LH equipment. The exceptions are limited-release models like this and SC putters.

You mean all the fun stuff they email me and only know RH only until I click on it :(. My bag is all Titleist (except putter) after visiting TPI, and they certainly have great standard LH options, but not a lot of unique / fun stuff that comes out in lefty. Saves some money.

Hmmm .... these or the new T150s when they come out?  I'm getting too old to play blades.  I need all the forgiveness I can get.  Even though I did play some of my best golf with blades in the bag.

Got my first set of these new in college. Picked up a new set of the 2018 re-issues ~ 3 years ago on offer up. Wish I could order the 2 iron as a single.

if anyone is ordering a set and doesn’t mind buying a 2 iron with it please message me.

These irons spin so well compared to modern equipment it’s crazy to see the ball flight difference. Still think this is one of the best looking irons ever made alongside 681

There is a local guy here that has 3 small warehouses and a shop that look like that, his problem is he thinks it is all gold and his prices are just stupid. I have tried to buy some stuff and he has to look it up on ebay and then add to the price. It will all just rust away sitting there and he is quite old and his health is terrible.

If one called Titleist customer service and asked if Hoffman forged these. My money is on that they would tell you that nobody named Hoffman worked in the call center.

Hoffman has been out of business for years and the 680’s were never Forged by Hoffman

I'm intruiged by these. Never have hit a set. So what is it about them that spins so well? What is different about the ball flight?

Having never played a set, I assume CG has *something* to do with it, but they also have weak lofts by todays standards (48 PW).  Not sure if they had the old (now non-conforming) grooves in the OGs or not (or if that made a ton of difference).
