How do you like the 4H over your gamer 7w?

I'm struggling with the 4H. Its lie angle is quite upright, and I'm seeing every single strike drawing more than I'd like. If there was a way to flatten the lie angle -- bending it, or if Wilson ever went to an adjustable hosel -- I think it'd be a strong contender for best hybrid on the market. But for me right now, it's much less accurate than the 7W.

Finally got out to the course this evening.  I'm really liking the woods.  The 3 wood has already found a spot in the bag.  I even sold my old 3 wood, so no turning back.  I'm finding it very hard to hit any right to left shots with it, which I think is a good thing.  It is either super straight or I can hit a controlled cut at will.  Some of it might be it's the 13.5* version.  Either way I'm flighting it and controlling it well.  This is both off the tee and from the fairway.  Unfortunately I haven't had the same amount of reps with the 5 wood or 19* hybrid.  So far I'm seeing the 5 wood go very straight and consistent.  The hybrid has been a little more hit or miss, especially off the tee.  I'm old hybrid has the same shaft, loft and length, except the Willson shaft is slightly heavier.  When I hit it, it is easily 10 yards longer than my old hybrid.  I think right now the 5 wood and hybrid are going about the same distance.  I'm going to mess around with the settings and get some range time this week.  I do with the hybrid was adjustable.  Maybe is even a couple weights in the fairways.  Still overall very impressed.  Pretty confident to say my Callaway UW will be out of the bag as well.  More to come.

Will be back at the course in a couple of days with some more on course data and thoughts/feelings from them. It’s a foregone conclusion but I’m playing this next round and the TM Stealth 2 will be on the b/s/t forum.

Played a league 9 last night and had another opportunity to experiment with these.

3 Wood: Still long and accurate off the tee. Went for a par 5 in two and finally got an on-course opportunity to hit it off the deck.  Just so easy to hit.  It's officially in my bag for the foreseeable future.

7 Wood: Hit it off the tee a couple of times. Easy to elevate and just a fun club.  It was going in my bag permanently after the first swing. I can't say enough good things about it.

4 Hybrid: Swung a little easier and lost the left miss.  Started playing it to draw and it's become a super reliable club for me.  It's in the running to make the bag over a driving iron or my UW.

Wilson really hit it out of the park with these!

I was just talking to my buddy about the 7 wood. I call it a multi tool. So many uses for it and it’s just fun to pull out of the bag.

You’re 100% correct about Wilson knocking out of the park. I know we’re biased but these are incredibly good fairway woods. As long as the durability stands up, which I see no reason why it would not, these will be in the bag for a long time.

Everyone in the market owes it to themselves, and their wallets, to check these out. Just hit them against the competition and see where they land. They may not be the end all be all for every golfer but I can confidently say they punch well above their weight class in every category.

Loving the reviews; question.  Has anyone had experience with the fairway woods in which they hit a ground a bit too early but it still resulted in a decent shot?  I'm asking for myself as one who still struggles with coming in steep.

I can get a little steep with my swing.  Right now I'm not seeing much of an issue from the fairway.  Of the tee I need to be sure to not tee the ball up to high.  I'm not sure about your question.  Hitting the ground first is almost always going to result in some distance lose.  Getting steep can also cause higher spin numbers which will be shorter as well.

I would recommend looking at the Wilson Max over the Carbon.  I think that would give you a little more forgiveness.

I appreciate the response.  Because I struggle with coming in steep on the downswing, that always put me at risk of chunking it.  I do not necessarily struggle with this when swing my irons or wedges.  I've debated between this or the Wilson Dynapwr Hybrid at 17*.

I would think a hybrid would be a little more forgiving over a fairway if you're steep.

Got on the course the woods and hybrid off 9 of the 14 holes we played (short round with July 4th plans).  Only missed 1 fairway and that just caught the fairway bunker.  3 wood continues to be a bomber.  5 wood launches high with little roll out but dead straight.  I actually hit the hybrid sold as well.  No doubt these clubs are out performing my 2 Callaway fairways.  Hoping to get to the range tomorrow to dial in some distances for gapping.  I wish Wilson would have a demo day or fitter in my area.  It would be interesting to see what numbers I get from the driver with the same shaft as the fairways.  Not sure I feel like paying $700+ for an experiment.  More to come tomorrow and then some thoughts and suggestions.  Thanks again to Wilson and GolfWRX.  I'm am ecstatic with this opportunity.

Had a good range session today and used my SC200+.  Numbers are pretty close to what I've seen on the course.  In the past, 250 yards was pretty much the max I got out of a 3 wood.  This Wilson is getting me 255-260.  It is 13.5* (set to 14.5*), not a traditional 15*.  Even though it is a slightly stronger launch I am able to hold greens.  It has become an excellent fairway finder as well.  The 5 wood is getting me 230 - 235 yards consistently.  Plenty of height and spin for holding.  The 19* is just slightly shorter at 225-230 yards.  My TEE C721 (19*) and Srixon DI (20*) both get me around 210 yards off the turf into a green.  I have a few gapping tweaks I need to make, but overall Wilson has been superb.

A couple comments or suggestion:

1.  As mentioned before, drop the D site mark and replace it with the Wilson W or the Wilson Staff shield.  Personally I like the Shield/Crest.  I tried taking a pic, but for some reason GolfWRX is not allowing me to upload .jpg, .jpeg or .png.

2.  Make the players hybrids adjustable.  Makes things easier for change face angles and swapping shafts.

3.  I love the movable weights in the players driver.  The design is one of the simplest yet effective.  It would be nice to see that in the fairways.

4.  More opportunities for testing or demoing Wilson equipment.  I live in PA about an hour and half from DC and Baltimore.  3 hours to Philly and Pittsburgh.  However, South Carolina is the closest place for me to try out your clubs.  After this opportunity I am very interested in a driver or set of irons, but I really don't want to buy blind.

5.  Try to get some more tour presence.  No question this helps with exposure especially with more novice players.  I believe if people would get a chance to try we would see more Wilson gear in play.

Thanks again to @Wilson_Golf & @GolfWRX_Official  I will continue to provide updates.

Another league round with the DYNAPWR in the bag.

3 Wood: It continues to be long and accurate. So much so, that I sold the mini driver and moved this into the bag.

7 Wood: I find myself looking for opportunities to hit this club during the round.  Off the tee and off the deck it's a cheat code. just high and straight.  I see myself playing it until it breaks.

4 Hybrid: Now that I have realized that I'm not fading it, I've been more confident with it.

Looking forward to tracking down a fitting location to try the driver, irons, and wedges.

Same!

Even with longer shots from some trouble, my go to is grabbing an iron, but then I remember I have a cheat. I've gotten away with some shots that I never should have, lol.

As confidence inspiring as the 7 wood is,  I've been struggling with the 3 wood.  It's such a low launch/low spin club for me - which  usually I have the opposite problem.  I really think the 16.5 4 wood + 7 wood is the sweet spot combo.

Not being able to get enough spin was my biggest fear with Carbon.  I don't have the issue with the Max.

I've previously played with a 16.5º 4 wood and loved it, so I was bummed when the Max wasn't offered in the 4 wood loft, but I've been getting along really well with the 15º.

I’m a steep player. I haven’t had too many of those shots yet with these where I drop kick one or similar but I can say that they’re just as forgiving as anything out there. The forgiveness was more than my stealth 2. I hit plenty of shots to know what was going to happen when I put a just poor, over the top and steep shot on the ball. I have done that a few times with these, not many because I’ve been swinging it decent for me but I’m in now way a “stick”(77/76/78 last 3 rounds on my course). The results with very similar shots and location on club face has given me better results with the DYNAPWR without a doubt.

Because I appreciate GolfWRX and Wilson so much for this giveaway, it motivated me to get a pass to a local sim that's 24/7. In the last 5 years they've really expanded and popped up all over here in Utah. I had a location within 5-10 minutes from my house depending on traffic. Should be able to get some final trackman numbers today or Sunday and will make a final review post.

After several rounds and range sessions, I can say the 3 & 5 woods are firmly in the bag.  Both are super easy to hit off the tee and fairway.  Still working with the settings, but gaining tons of confidence each time.  I'm still on the fence with the hybrid.  I think that has more to do with how well I'm hitting the woods.  I recommend giving these woods a try if you get the opportunity.

Had a truly awful ball striking round over the weekend.  The 7 wood is point and shoot easy even when really playing like garbage.  I drop kicked a couple of 3 woods off the tee, and they were a little better (more distance) than what I was getting out of my 915F.

The hybrid is slowly becoming a reliable part of my bag as well.

This is where I am, as well, after a little bit of time on the course over the weekend.

I'm still struggling with hooks with the 4 hybrid. It's a great club in a lot of ways -- I love the looks, feel and sound -- but it's just more draw-biased than I'd like it to be, and I'm having a hard time reining that in.

The 3 and 5 woods are excellent. The only concern about the 5 wood is whether it goes too far for my gapping. But the 3 wood has given me a fantastic "second serve" sort of option off the tee, especially. For a forward-CG, low-launching, low-spinning, super-hot fairway wood, I keep being blown away with how well it keeps its line when my strike drifts toward the heel or toe. I have no idea how Wilson managed to do that, but it's awesome. I've found myself hitting the 3 wood a lot on my home course, where there are quite a few holes that aren't super long but do require accuracy. I can hit bad shots with ANY golf club, but I haven't hit any truly awful ones with this one. As in: I've hit it off the tee a lot and haven't lost a ball yet.

I got an annual pass to Scratch Golf Labs and checked it out over the weekend. They’ve got an awesome self-service setup—three huge private rooms with Trackman. I’m pumped to have a spot like this so close to home. I did the math with the entry membership, and if I skip my overpriced local range and use the 20% discount with the annual pass, it’s actually a pretty solid deal—plus I’ll have a place to hit during the winter.

I went to test some clubs, but one hour wasn’t nearly enough while trying to figure out the Trackman software. I don’t think I need to recalibrate the unit, but I seriously couldn’t get a single ball to turn down the line. That’s not usually an issue when I hit with my buddy at other spots. It got a little frustrating, so naturally, the solution was to tinker with the gear—this is GolfWRX after all, and buying new equipment is always the answer.

I took my 4, 7, and PW to the shop to get them bent 2° upright from standard and threw on some midsize MCC+4 grips. Haven’t hit them yet, but they look phenomenal at address. And to top it all off, I tweaked my mid-back tossing salt bags into the truck at Costco. Letting that settle down for a few days, but I’ll be back in the sim this week once I’m moving better and ready to test and log everything.

The hybrid is still automatic, the real showdown is going to be with my 3w and 5w.

The 3w has been the biggest struggle for me.  It's such a low launch/spin design and a 13.5° head just isn't getting the height I would need.  Off the tee even, I am not able to take lines I typically would with a 3w or the mini drivers I have used in the past.

I think a 16.5 would be money.  7w is firmly in place for the foreseeable future though.

Wanted to jump in with a thought on a super-specific type of player that should strongly consider the Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon 5 wood after a quick 9 holes this morning.

This club likely isn't going to make my bag long-term -- but only because it goes too far. We moved earlier this year, and my new home course is a bit shorter. In this third-longest-spot in the bag, I need to prioritize something that flies really high and lands softly. This 5W launches lower, has a boring mid-trajectory flight and carries farther than would be ideal for this new home course.

HOWEVER ... if you're somebody whose second-longest club is a mini-driver -- or maybe exploring that, but worried it'll be too big a gap to your third-longest club? Or someone who hits 3 woods too low and is looking at going up in loft for your second-longest club? This DYNAPWR Carbon 5 wood could be PERFECT for your game.

The stock length is 42.5". I had mine cut down to 41.75" in hopes of pulling back on the distance, but if you're in one of the scenarios I described above ... just order it at stock length!

The other thing that stands out to me is that the 5 wood head doesn't look much smaller than the 3 wood head to me. Coming from Titleist woods, where there's a HUGE difference in size between my former 3W and 7W, this is a big deal, and a positive for Wilson, in my opinion.

3W on the left, 5W on the right, to illustrate what I mean:

The carbon woods look incredible from address.

Another mini update after last night.  Feeling a lot more comfortable with the hybrid. I was able to hit a nice high draw that landed softly.

The 7 wood is still incredible. My fairway finder for the foreseeable future.  It was windy last night and it was unfazed in the air.

I voted in the best fairway wood poll. The Wilson is the best I've hit this year.

I voted for Wilson as well. There’s just nothing I have hit that’s better for my game the past two seasons.

Thats exactly my setup, and why I like it, i go mini, then 16.5 but turned up. I feel like you can turn the loft up on these and they do a pretty good job of not shutting  the face.

Alright, I finally figured out how to use Trackman. After watching a few videos, I learned how to use the “tag” feature, which made things much easier. I didn’t have time, but I would’ve liked to export the data as a CSV.

Trackman settings: Elevation set to 4,500 ft (average for SLC).

TM Stealth 3 wood

  • Loft: 15°

  • Lie: 59°

  • Length: 43.25"

Wilson 5 wood

  • Loft: 18°

  • Lie: 58°

  • Length: 41.75" (stock is 42.50")

As expected, the Wilson carried shorter off the deck. That 3° loft difference averaged about 25 yards for me on Trackman. Honestly, that makes more sense than the TM 3 wood averaging 300 yards—it’s an awesome club, but I just don’t see where it fits in my bag unless I completely lose the driver.

Launch angle was a bit higher with the Wilson, too. I don’t think I hit my best shots with it—tough to dial things in after a swing lesson when your brain's still busy thinking. If I could change anything, I might’ve gone 1–2° more upright on the lie angle.

Still, it’s a great club. Off a tee, I pushed a few out to 300 yards. Hoping that with more time on Trackman, I can fine-tune the launch angle a bit more.

Now for the hybrids:

Tour Edge Exotics 3h

  • Loft: 19°

  • Lie: 58.5°

  • Length: 40.25"

Wilson 4h

  • Loft: 22°

  • Lie: 59.5°

  • Length: 40" (-0.25" from stock)

The Wilson hybrid is just automatic. It fits perfectly in the gap and averaged 252 yards on Trackman with a 14.5° launch angle. The Exotics 3h was about 25 yards longer, which checks out given the 3° loft difference. That Wilson hybrid is incredible—I can’t see myself replacing it anytime soon.

Definitely want to test out a utility iron next. Thanks to GolfWRX and Wilson! I'll continue to come back to this thread as I work on my swing and play.
