Cobra 3DP Additions to the lineup.

Recommended Posts

i'm curious about those that want larger heads or 'more forgiving' irons in this line.  Isn't the whole point to make a game improvement iron in the size of a players iron?  If the 3dp tour product is as forgiving as a GI iron in a players distance type profile then why would they make a larger headed iron?  It seems like this model is already too high launching and low spinning for a lot of players as it is.  If you want a larger head with more offset they have those irons available already.

To me it makes sense to go smaller and more blade like using this tech and not the other way around.  I'm curious as to what the differences will be between the mb and the mb.s though.  Perhaps the 's' is just a shorter blade length?  So you have an iron head for faders and drawers essentially: shorter blade length for the guys that like to draw the ball etc....

I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m very much on the fence. I currently play the KTX and absolutely love it. I’m really intrigued by the 3DP Tour. I love everything about it, but the size is a bit intimidating for a 16 HC. My driver is errant but my irons are strong. I’d love to move into the 3DP Tour, but I’m not sure how I’d get along with the smaller head size. If they made something closer to the size of the KT or KTX that had even more forgiveness (which is hard to fathom) I’d be all over that. I’m just not sure if the 3DP Tour is too big of a leap. Having said all this, I’ve held the 3DP Tour but have not had a chance to hit.

The S3’s do look good, but I can’t imagine you’re getting the same forgiveness, if that’s something you are looking for.

I’m playing very traditional blades now, not really looking for forgiveness, but will take it if it’s not going to compromise control or feel.

Turf interaction is a big deal for me and the S3 Pro irons have some relief on the leading edge which I like.

Overall to me irons are a precision instrument.  I prioritize consistent carry distance, trajectory, spin and stopping power.

Not looking really for more distance either.  I went down the player’s distance iron route once and they just went too far, didn’t spin enough and got flyers way too often.

The current 3DP Tour irons gave me that same vibe when I hit them.

A smaller 3DP iron with a thinner sole, thinner top line, shorter blade length, very little offset and more traditional lofts would get me to take another look.

I hit down on the ball and my normal shot shape is a draw so I prefer more loft and more backspin and abhor offset and upright lie angles.

I'm hoping the mb has 3d tech with lots of weight spread wide like the 3DPtour, but without the super low center of gravity - so that you have a higher vertical cg for low launch high spin but with all the benefits of the toe - heel forgiveness present in the 3DPtour.

Maybe the "s" in mb.s is for spin and accomplishes this.  Wishful thinking.

Listening to the new Fully Equipped podcast. Mentions “one of the other manufacturers (e.g. not Titleist) has irons coming tomorrow (thursday/today) that have been a really well kept secret. Only people who have been to that manufacturer and maybe the gear sickos on the WRX forums know about”.

Hoping the 3DMBs are what he’s referring to.

Likely referring to the Callaway AI150

Gotta ask.
Did the podcast actually refer to members here as “gear sickos”?! 😂
