I’m curious to see what comes next. depending on how 3d printed MBs play I could see adding a few of those in the shorter clubs. 
 

I’m not having spin problems with the 3DP tours. Or at least they spin enough and come in steep enough that they stop well. Even the 5 iron will only be 2-3 yards past the mark. Spinnier ball helps there I think.

Rumor has it there will be 3 - 3dp irons.

 

small(mb), medium (current 3dp limited), and large (think forged tec or slightly larger) 

 

 

rumor also has it they will focus on those 3, and less on the other offerings in the future.  So less mb/cb, tour, forged tec/x, darkspeed, etc.

but considering they invited those folks, who are in the golf fitting industry to their HQ in Carlsbad to hit the irons, it’s a preeeeeetty safe bet they are coming to market 🙂

It’s all conjuncture at this point.  When we had our demo day last month the Cobra rep said not to expect to see the 3DP MBs until 2026.  Sounds like maybe they pushed up that date or maybe my Cobra rep was dead wrong.  Probably the latter of the two…

I do believe the 3DP is the future of irons,  and I'm excited to see if Cobra comes out with more iterations. 

One interesting thing RE:  Current 3DP being lower spin. I have to wonder if future ball changes will play into that, and if manufacturers are already developing based on what the rollback ball will do. If we see a ball with more spin, I'd think more people would flock to a lower spin set-up to counter that.

I'm not suggesting the current version was designed for that purpose.  Only that it's interesting to think about the possibilities.  Similar to drivers, you could have an LS version, High MOI version..etc.

Don't Pros want low spin on drivers and high spin on irons and wedges 

 

is that not why drivers are offered like that?

 

I just think they rushed it and haven't got the spin windows right yet - struggling with what to do with ALL that tungsten lol

or

they are P790 killers and won't be for me ever

Pros want specific spin ranges.

So I'm spitballin' -  If they are currently dialed in their perfect windows,  they will likely need to make adjustments if/when the ball change comes.  Say the new balls spin way too much for them..  well now they need to find a way to get that spin down.

... I had to think long and hard about spending $2k for a set of irons when I was perfectly happy with my King Tours. But the thought of looking like my KT's at address and performing like my KT's with the forgiveness of the DS-Adapt Max irons was too tempting to resist. Having played them for about 10 rounds now I'm not sure I needed the forgiveness. There have been a couple shots where a miss on the toe ended up much better than it should have but by and large pretty similar to my KT's. I have no regrets and am enjoying playing them especially knowing a bad miss isn't gonna hurt me. 

... With the internal lattice and the extreme heel/toe tungsten weighting I can see where the added cost might be worth it. But unless they are priced the same as King MB's or 620 MB's I just don't see why anyone would pay a premium price for something very similar in performance.

I’d like to get these on a monitor along with my King Tour to compare. I’m not seeing any issues with low spin on the course. I tend to turn it over and am not a particularly high spin player. Not that they aren’t low spin for some people I’m just not seeing that.

What’s your ball speed with a 7 iron with the 3dp?

my guess is you will see more curve and less stability with them as your sign

I’ve got about 50 rounds on them so far. I haven’t seen anything I would describe as unstable. I think they curve less than the King Tour, which is an iron I really like.

So probaly about 125 ish.  My hypothesis is that about the limit before they get dicey on playability.

... My experience is very similar to yours. Having played P790's in Chicago with soft greens, then moving to Phoenix with hard fast greens I just could't hold them with mid/long irons. I can't say anything negative about my 3DP's (other than the price). Plenty of height and spin to hit and hold hard, fast desert greens and a little more accurate than my King Tours. For me at least, I would never consider them low spin and definitely not comparable to P790's.

What year/version of the p790s where you playing?  The 2025 version and even the previous version spun more for me than the 3dp.  They also apexed a touch lower.

 

the 2019 790 were rocket ships and much more like the 3dp for launch and spin, although 3dp was more (much more) consistent/repeatable.

 

basically if I played a 7200 yard course with no wind ever and greens that stimped less than 6 I would game the 3dp.
