There's no doubt in my mind that club designers are thinking about this.   The ball companies have been producing prototypes, so clubs would be as well.   Most OEMs have at least one more generation under the current state, but then will need something for some staffers in 2028.

 

It will be interesting to know if the trend of retro/HL/* versions of clubs may evolve into new ball/old ball models.

the 2019 790 were rocket ships and much more like the 3dp for launch and spin, although 3dp was more (much more) consistent/repeatable.

 

basically if I played a 7200 yard course with no wind ever and greens that stimped less than 6 I would game the 3dp.

 

 

I played a course with firm greens running 13.5 a few weeks ago. Had no problem stopping the ball with 3DP and Chrome Tour TD. Total non-issue unless you hit huge low-spinning hooks (I hit it pretty straight).

I also don’t need a 7 iron coming in at less than 45 degrees, 5000 spin, and 140 ball speed😀

I’m still perplexed by the spin obsession. If you need spin for optimal carry, that’s one thing, but the height and decent angles on all these clubs mitigate the spin issues. Now I realize you need adequate spin, but that number is much lower now that we have these low CG’s. I’m a low spin player and I’ve had zero issues with the KTX.

Yup, no problems with that holding!  Spin won’t be an issue with that and will land like a butterfly with sore feet

Yep. My spin is in the LOW 4,000’s, but the ball goes high and far.

Don’t know my decent angle, but my good strikes are low trajectory so I’d guess my descent angle is low. I play KTs and 7i ball speed is 115-120 and they spin like 6500 rpm. I need every rpm at my height.

Out of curiosity, what is your average peak height? Low to one person is mid to another.

Gotcha. I’m a scooper. I could do a better job of compressing the ball, but my swing is repeatable and consistent right now, so I’m scared to death to change it ha. I lose face control when I scoop so I’ll pull hook or slice. So I had to change something.

Not stupid at all. King Tec X. It’s the slightly larger and stronger lofted version of the King Tec.

KT in this case is King Tech. Obviously their technical lineup. I’m not sure what they’re considered, but they have built in speed technology. The MB, CB and the King Tours do not. 
 

Im not super familiar with their performance. Probably what I should be playing over the King Tours, but that’s what I bought.

Someone posted that Cobra would soon be releasing additional irons to the 3DP line.  I still have heard nothing more about it.
