Daddy Long Legs = Cheating!

I’m sorta late to the whole mallet party, as I’ve been a Anser guy for decades. With that said, my EXO 7s mallet has been very good to me the last 2 years, and it’s been very consistent.
 

As much as I like my Ody, I’ve still kinda had an itch to find a reliable, possibly better backup mallet. The larger/high MOI mallets really stay square and are very good on short & mid-range putts, which is what prompted my initial switch from a blade. The 3-6ft range was my Achilles heel some days, and a couple of these misses are what separated a round of 75 and 80 for me. They really messed with my head, but have been nearly eliminated with the 7s. 
 

I figured if higher MOI helped once, even more could be better. Enter the TM Daddy Long Legs, actually the ‘+’ version with milled aluminum insert. Wow, this thing sits effortlessly square, something my EXO can’t exactly replicate without a little user help. The only design flaw IMO is the polymer gasket where the steel inner piece mates with aluminum frame piece, toward the back. When I got it, there were 1/8” pieces of poly sticking out from the sole, where these gasket pieces extended past both metal joints. Well, they kept scraping the ground, and I couldn’t have that! Took a razor blade and nipped all 4 off, flush with the sole now. Start line with this thing is crazy easy, it just wants to stay square, and the way it just wants to lay perfectly flat at address makes alignment so foolproof. 
 

I just came back from the putting green and can confidently say this is going into the bag, IMMEDIATELY. Don’t think I’ve ever made so many 15-20 footers just putting around, and everything inside 8ft was automatic. Best part of this is a college friend of mine used to put with a regular DLL, and was very, very good with it, until he chucked it into a pond. He’s cycled thru several putters since then but has never been quite the same. He’s even gone through a stage of the yips a couple years back. It’ll be AWESOME when I kick his butt with the very club he used to be great with!!! 😂 

 

Brian Harmon might be onto something with these mega-sized cattle branders!!!

If you look close at the sole pic above, you can see those little plastic joint areas, where I chopped off the ridiculous protrusions. You’ll know what I talking about if you’ve ever held/rolled one of these.

 

Also, as a note, I’ve used several other mallets on and off, with much less success than my EXO 7. Really wanted to like the Phantom 11.5 but just couldn’t hit my line great with it. Had a PXG Mini Gunboat too, and that was actually pretty darned close to the EXO in performance, just not quite as good. Shipped it back.
 

PS, this thing is YUGE, UGLY as sin, and more spaceship worthy than that of putter. 😛

It may be big but it’s not as ugly as some other big ones out there. I like the alignment dot and line on top. That is a great way to check aim.

Where did you find one in that good condition? That site dot is not standard either, may be tour issue. The counter balance version I always felt was ahead of its time. Great find, ENJOY!

I added the dot, and cut it down. No more counter balance. 33.75” with a Tour GM Leather stitchback grip. 🤌

Jeebus.  Don't let those LAB guys hear about this.  They might have a seizure knowing that someone thinks there is a great putter other than theirs out there.

I’ll give the putter a good run through its paces and report back, but I cannot foresee it crapping the ol’ bed.

This putter just flat out performs! Making a lot of lengthy putts beyond my usual. FWIW, I removed all the CB, cut it down to 34" and installed a GM Tour leather stitchback. 🤩

If a person can get past the visuals of a larger MOI putter, and distance control can be honed, I just cannot see how a blade putter could ever compare for stability and face control.

I have one that I have used off and on over the years. I putt better with the armlock blade I use now. I lag putt well with Daddy Long legs but tendancy to push shorter finesse putts.

The part I think is unreal, is the flat bottom. It just wants to sit so square to my path. I can sorta grip, re grip or whatever, standing over the ball and the head just stays perfectly square.

I need to cut the points off if I end up using it again. I'm armlocking now so it will be awhile.
