Across the line and more rotation (downswing)

Recommended Posts

I’m currently trying to get my driver better.   For the life of me I can’t get off the tee and it’s sucks.  Been going to some teachers and now working on more rotation in the swing. Also less across the line.

I had a feeling in the range today to keep my right elbow closer to my body.  I guess my question is, should it be feeling its pinned to my right side? Or am I going down the wrong road?

Also, I find the more turn in my backswing I go more across the line it is as well.

You lose connection between the arms and the upper body early and your wrists set near the end of the swing.

combined with pressure stying on the trail side too long and you get driver troubles.

Better chest and pelvis rotation along with setting wrists with the driver between p2 and p3 will help, along with learning to shift pressure early to the trail side and then getting left before the swing ends or at lease before transition starts

I would not call that swing across the line or under rotated.

Post a face on.

The arc of your hand path is getting too narrow and the club head is getting outside your hands too early.

What feels you need to get this right is going to be personal.

The one my students have the most success with is feeling the right elbow straighten earlier and the club head to work toward 8 o’clock…the down the line camera being 6

Thanks. I have noticed this in the past. So 8 o’clock I’m assuming is to the right of the target ish, and 4 o’clock is to the club head to the left?

If you're addressing the ball, ball is at 3, straight back and dtl is 6, and directly behind you is 9, clock face is "above" you - I can't figure out what you are saying, but maybe it's the same thing.

Exactly my last driver practice session + a little pelvis action to tie it together. The timing of this post is a little freaky but thank you for the validation!

Your pivot is moving your upper torso into a position on the backswing that would be awesome if you were trapping a 9 iron under a tree limb…..but you’re trying to hit a driver, so…..

….arm swing compensation city.

Probably explains why iron play is way better than off the tee.

For my eyes...I see posture too upright and CoM that moves toward the ball in the backswing.

This should be a pinned video in this forum...

And this video disagrees with the one you posted.

and for the op the issue is in the backswing not the downswing. He doesn’t have pressure in the trail side to let the pelvis rotate properly. Fix the backswing and see how that affects the downswing, not trying a drill for the downswing

So you're saying monte's hip movement video is bunk?

Also, very interesting that you note monte's video as a downswing drill when it's CLEARLY and entire swing hip motion video.

OP. You begin moving toward the ball as early as p2 and you keep moving closer and closer until p4.  Draw a line on your butt and watch how it moves. But, even easier, look at the trees in the distance and the bill of your hat in the dtl video. See how your head dives toward the ball?

Watch that monte video and then think of this...

1

1. From p2 to p3 think of that trail hip getting back....like really exaggeratedly back. Then, from p3 to p4 feel like you shift more into your lead heel rather than your lead toe.

You just need to clean up that hip movement exactly like the monte video I posted and you'll be in your way.

I do think more bend at the waist would help quite a lot too.

Thanks for all these response’s didn’t expect this much discussion.

i have noticed that the hips and head go towards the ball in the back swing.  I’ve always struggled to get a proper turn.  I may be wrong but once I achieve this things may fall into place getting to the 8 o’clock position.

feels like whack a mole at the moment haha.

Yep.  Erky said, so I didn’t say it again, but you have to fix the first issue first.

This is NOT staying on the trail side too long...

This is NOT the proper way to post a video...

The screen capped video controls within the video were giving me a damn aneurysm.🫠

But yeah that left shift looks very prompt.

Slowly making this change.  Found it too be going back to my old ways of across the line. Maybe I’m nit picking.

But yes I do feel like I can come in on the inside a lot more rather than getting steep in the ball. More of a consistent shot I was feeling.  It’s a work in progress.
