Same shaft across driver and woods - yay or nay?

I currently have a Ventus Blue Velocore+ 6S in my 5W and it is the club I hit the best, hands down. I have always struggled with consistency in my driver and have tried a few different shafts and just can't seem to find the right weight/feel. I think I have always heard that the shaft in your woods should be heavier than the driver which is why I always tried shafts lighter than my current 5W set up.

I am curious if anyone plays the same shaft in their driver and woods and what benefits and or drawbacks doing this may have.

Thought the same and tried. But all those felt quiet different: length, tipping, swing weight, cpm, etc. A good fitter may be able to adjust those to make the feel even across different clubs. But my experiment wasn't succesful as I just picked up same shafted clubs from here and there (dr, 3, and 5; 60 for dr and 70s for fws)

Generally its recommended that woods shafts are heavier more from a swing weight perspective if your ok with your woods playing a bit llighter than the driver than you can do that or just add some head weight if you really like the torque and feel of that weight of shaft. As for the same profile through the bag that can work for some people but I would recommend getting fitted sometimes we need more or less launch in a driver vs a fyw remember one is hit almost always off a tee and the other almost always off the ground and that can make a difference in spin and launch.

Agreed. It comes down to launch, spin, face impact, swingweight, etc. Sometimes the same profile shaft will work from FW into driver, and sometimes it won’t.

It's more likely the problem isn't really the shaft - but rather the playing length. Stock playing lengths are ridiculously long for the vast majority of am's.

That recommendation should only be used as a starting point for the fitting process. Everyone is going to be different as to where they might actually end up for shaft weight.

Maybe it would be worthwhile to have someone find the adjustable driver settings for your swing, as well changing the playing length for best consistency.

I've tried it many times over and it never works for me. My transition with driver is much more aggressive than any other club in the bag. I usually gravitate towards heavy low/low shafts in driver but have swapped out my AD VF for a Diamana BB a few months ago in lighter weight and it's been good so far although I've had to slow down my transition and slightly level out my AoA in order to for it to behave, lol. Ball speeds are up, however, dispersion pattern is a bit wider, but I can live with that as my back isn't screaming at me after a round or range session.

I like staying within the same "profile family" for my woods and driver shafts. If I can even match to my irons shafts, that's even better.

For some, that means Ventus Blue 5, 6, 7 in driver, lower wood, higher wood. Weight ought to increase some from driver to higher lofts, but overlapping a bit is just fine. If you really like the 6s, there is no problem using that in Driver and 5W. Most would be comfortable matching exact shafts with Driver and 3W. 5W is less common, but if you hit that the best, it makes for a great starting point to work from.

If you're a handle dragger, it can be easier to release sooner with a lighter setup.

Testing the blue 5s vs 6s for driver is where I would begin, erring towards the 5s. Have you tried these two?
