2025 Open Championship in Portrush

I  prefer, quite simply, The Open.

I love the open. The day 1 leaderboard is always fascinating and filled with guys you’ve never heard of (aka Dan Brown last year). I also really enjoy seeing guys who excel in the conditions and working the ball on the ground.

Who's going to get the honour of hitting the first tee shot?

 

Only of recent years has it become something of significance; Last year wasn't it Justin Leonard in his last Open back where he won in 1997? The year before it was home club member Matthew Jordan at Hoylake. I think Darren Clarke did it in 2019 when we were last at Portrush. Any ideas? Maybe Padraig?

Padraig is not a bad shout. I guess it depends whether they want to give it to a Northern Irishman, in which case maybe Tom McKibben.

Would be kind of disrespectful though for Shane not to be given a featured group kind of billing, probably wouldn't overly appreciate having to get up to play at 6.30am to play his first round.

Very unlikely. Logistically you'd have a problem getting+10k of people through the gates and in position for a 6:30 start.

A great hour on what the history of The Open at Portrush, and what it took to bring it back after a 68-year absence. 

 

I think it's one of the most dramatic of the rota to play, but equally a good venue for spectators as there are many higher points to view from, it's far from flat...

It's the top and leg design. Cambria Quartz makes line called Portrush.
