Nowadays given how soft contacts are I’m amazed Bahtia wears glasses on the course.  He must truly be intolerant to them or just unable to put them in/out.  Believe he’s only guy on tour that wears them.  Fratelli occasionally would

 I have no idea. It may. I just didn’t care for the snark from the announcer. It’s the non golf guy.  Meaning not bones fax or Kisner. And not the Italian guy (Torico sic?) … the other guy.

Eh, I don’t have a problem with it. The discretion is for the player. Don’t do anything that might make it move.

Phone ins by fans or others, not allowed.  Video evidence for use by officials ok, just can’t zoom in to detect minute movements.  Must be evident to the naked eye.

Sounds like the R&A is going to show Shane the video and ask if he saw the ball move from his vantage point. Sounds like some mobster behavior. If he saw it move while he was playing, wouldn't he have penalized himself in the moment?

 

I think they're going to show him the video and "help him remember"

It's sounding like they're going to talk to him and decide, but I don't know what there is to decide on, other than what Nance(?) was talking briefly about.

 

Did it start to move a "hair" before Lowry clipped that twig ?

 

After all, it appeared to be him hitting that twig, away from the ball, that was long enough to also be under the ball and cause the ball to move.

 

I believe the "naked eye test" means that the movement can be SEEN by the naked eye, but it doesn't mean the player has to see it himself.

Yeah I though the "naked eye test" was to avoid the micro-movements that can only be seen with the HD/4K replays.

No one is lying or being dishonest. He was asked if he saw it move, I’m confident he said no, so that should be the end of it.

I would think naked eye means from a distance or vantage point that can be seen in real time by the player. Not zoomed in 4k/HD footage. Here's the decision:

If I'm Shane, if he didn't observe it in real time and neither did his playing partners and caddie that's what I would tell the officials. At the end of the day, if he doesn't want to take the penalty I don't think he actually has to.

100%. If they are going to put the decision to the player, allow the player to be honest and accept the determination.

Ha. Look at the replay. He is still looking down when his practice swing hits the rough. ANY golfer, even a 20 handicap, notices when a ball moves as the result of a practice swing.
