The only thing saving pro golf from complete Scottie domination over the next decade is if Scottie gets injured or he finds pro golf unfulfilling and retires

It's confusing, 9 out of the last 9 in worldwide starts. On the PGA Tour he's 11/17 and 7 in a row active streak.

Yea, I never looked it up. I'm just going by what they said on Sirius PGA radio. Either way he's pretty good at golf.😅

Multiple gold chains?  Yep, Gotterup is definitely from Jersey.

That doesn’t define NJ.

Chains are found regionally esp in NY boroughs and PA.

In NY state, not as much upstate vs downstate.

Its prevalent mostly amongst certain demographic than everyone.

Golfers decline earlier than people think they do, usually by the mid 30's, and said decline really getting steep by the early 40's. He realistically only has 5-6 years to cement the majority of his legacy. Yes, this is obscured a bit when older golfers occasionally win, but they almost always are all-time greats who can still pull a miracle or two out in their 40's since their peaks were so high to begin with.

Ironically,

Hatton seems like the only player who actually got better after going to that other tour.

It seems he’s been improving steadily over the past few years.  His game looks way better than his results would indicate, with his only win of note being the Arnold Palmer back in ‘20.  Most days he looks good enough to contend/win a major, but then he seems to find a way to fade out of contention in tournaments.  Of all the LIV guys, he’d be the guy that would least surprise me if he won a major in the next year or two.  Maybe if he dropped all the antics, he’d get over the hump.  Who knows.  Maybe throwing clubs and whining all day helps him play better.

I think so, but the next decade is Scottie’s. Once he’s in his 40s, yes all bets are off. When you are #1 in driving, approach, scrambling, and are top-25 in putting and are a grounded person with a killer closing ability who isn’t taking every sponsorship deal that comes his way, he’s untouchable for the next decade and the closest we’ve seen to Tiger.

Hatton, Niemann, and Bryson are the only ones who have improved. Rahm is close.

I could see him quitting at a young age like Byron Nelson or Bobby Jones. He made it clear the other day that golf is nowhere close to his top priority. One of these days he might decide he wants to spend way more time with his family.

The same Q thats has been asked of many top golfers what happens when they get married/have a family.

Yet another reason Jack exceeded everyone else. He kept going and had a full family life w more high end competitors.

For Scottie, quitting or semi-retirement after completing the grand slam seems probable.

Meh, Niemann’s ‘improvement’ appears to be suspect.  Outside of LIV exhibitions and Asian/Chilean tour stuff really against weak competition, he hasn’t done anything.  His performance in the Majors has been mostly forgettable, with one top ten in the last five years.  He’s the equivalent of a guy dominating the KFT.

Thank the golf Gods for this. The thought of Harmon being in contention tomorrow would have added nothing to the entertainment value. I think the only way this becomes enthralling is if Rory starts off red hot tomorrow before SS tees off. I don't see Li being a factor.

Please explain how Rory can do that.  He’s in the group right in front of Scheffler so won’t even have finished 1 when Scottie tees off..🤔

Except for his little interview the other day where he said he doesn't really care if he wins anything. Yes, you can parse and interpret that all you want, but I cannot recall or even imagine any other top ten major winner ever saying something like that.

As in

Plus Jack and Hogan are the only guys who have won 9 majors after they turned 30.

However, the second part of your post Como82 is very pertinent, as right now the under-30 male golfing contigent is almost completely moribund. I will likely start a separate thread on this on Monday, but right now the only guy under 30 near the top is Gotterup, whose majors record has been very spotty.  The twins are both -6 and have acquitted themselves fairly well I'll grant, but have no top tens in any majors yet.  Åberg is -5 but has missed the last two major cuts after his 71 hole effort at the Masters. OK there's Haotong, but he will turn 30 in 2 weeks and has been lost in the wilderness for the entire decade. Hovland is likely the biggest disappointment all told, and Morikawa the one which has frittered away his early promise the most.

Point is some of these guys need to turn their potential into actual, and that right soon. If none of them do, hell Scottie may indeed tie Tiger at this rate.

Umm..Scottie just turned 29  a couple weeks ago…he just looks old. 😏

The British Open is often won by someone who plays well and gets on the correct side of an improbable sequence of lucky random bounces while timing the weather well.

This course isn't a random outcome generator like a lot of links courses; it punishes bad shots and rewards good shots. Add in decent weather (by Bristish Open standards) and you get the best coming to the top.

Rory shot a course record 61 at Portrush when he was only 16 so it's still possible! Long shot for sure but the last golfer with a 4 shot lead that I can remember at the Open was my boy Adam Scott and I think Ernie Els came from 6 back to win out of nowhere. Same amount of strokes that Rory is behind Scottie right now
