Really interested to see how Penge goes at the weekend. Watched him in the Challenge Tour Finale the year before last and was really impressed but he's even better than I thought. Also glad to see the ban didn't derail him.

Aberg and Rory in the mix is great for the event. Hopefully there is some breeze over the weekend but it's virtually perfect. The tour, the sponsors etc must be delighted.

The American announcers repeatedly called it the 'British' Open.

You have your explanation right there.

Actually, ( 😁) I have often read the myth that it was called the "British" Open forever, until the R&A went crazy 20 years ago and "renamed" it "The Open".

So I did some research a few years ago. I searched for tickets, programs and other items at sports memorabilia shops online. I searched all decades of the 20th century. I did not find a single "official" item, that had "British" Open on it. It was always "The Open Championship". All the R&A does differently now is to ask that the tournament is called by its proper name. And that's not too much to ask.
BTW The tennis tournament which is being played in the West of London at the moment is not the British Open either.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I, for one,  am surprised to learn Penge is a Brit.  Also, looking at his profile picture on the leaderboard,  has he and Max Homa ever been seen together?

😁

That was my first thought as well, when I saw him for the first time.

BTW, because of the Mizuno connection, there are a few interesting videos with Penge on the Youtube channel of Matt Fryer.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Our impertinence knows no bounds!

We may just rename the US Open

THE Open 🤣

Like how NFL players say THE Ohio State University in their TV intros if they attended that school lol

Alas there is really no intentionality to us sometimes calling it the British Open. I think we just add the “British” on occasion without really thinking about it. I call the US Open..the Open when it’s on. Egads!  🍻

I was qualifying the nationality of the announcers because back then EVERY American called it the 'British Open.'

Now, they go out of their way to say only 'Open,' and go out of their way to make the distinction.

I will always call it the British Open. Calling it the Open just feels weird.

I roll with it. The Amateur. The Open. The hosting landmass has pretty low tier food, I get their need to stand out in addressing their tournaments.

Rory came through nicely today. Seems in it to win it, and I don't know if Gotterup has the pedigree to stand up against him with only a singular win under his belt. Some decent names floating around within a few strokes, but Rory is on.

I mean, lets be honest..I'm entirely of Scot/English/Irish descent..it's not as bad as some say. But, it's not the best.

Fair.  I could live on a full english breakfast and fish and chips with mushy peas.  At least for a while.

For final round since someone here will likely complain about it.

From PGA Tour.....

Weather update: Starting Saturday evening, areas of fog will begin to move in off the North Sea. Fog will remain over the area overnight and through 10 a.m. Sunday morning. By midday, partial sunshine with much cooler temperatures and winds out of the east-northeast is expected. Fog will return Sunday evening and linger into the evening. Due to the anticipated fog, tee times have been adjusted to a two-tee start and coverage times have been updated accordingly.
