 CG absolutely should have been OB in gorse on 16 - just like last year lucky break on par 5 changes everything. 
 

That being said he did deliver the goods when called upon

Just back from Ren and mildly annoyed at Rory.

On 16 he absolutely smashed the putt completely needlessly trying to make it when if he just got it to the top of the slope it would've trickled down for a tap in 4 and would've forced Gotterups hand, and at the least, would've been 1 back going into 17.

I think he was trying to be the hero for the crowd and hole the eagle putt but it was stupid and cost him any shot of winning. Fair play to Gotterup also, played some tremendous golf today against a respectful but muted crowd.

Well done and a great 2nd PGA Tour win. Even though most here have no idea who he even is. Of course there will be someone here that claims they watch every single PGA Tour event every week but never saw him on tv. Even when he won last year. 🤣

 

Rory in excellent form makes next week much more enticing. Hopefully he has a better 1st round this year than he did in 2019.

Like what factors? BTW they look at the weather and make these decisions long before you ever looked at the radar. Weather there changes quickly. You are aware of that right? 😆

I didn’t sense Gotterup was going to collapse and the 18th hole was playing a lot easier than it did last year for example, don’t think it would have made much difference since he lost by 2.

Preferable US TV window? Desire to get people (and stuff) over to NI sooner rather than later?  Wild speculation to be sure but the weather excuse didn't seem all that legit.

Like, how is no one talking about the horrible filming / camera work on this one? They should have a  warning that if you get sea sick to not watch this tornado filming. Can't even follow anything beyond putts.

We didnt get ton the course till 11 but certainly driving down it looked there was quite a bit of haar/fog down the coast so cant speak for starting later in the day.

Definitely correct call to get play done early  - temperature dropped about 6pm and fog started building as leaders were going down 16. Leaving course about 7pm it got very gloomy.

No maybe not but if Rory makes 4 there with Gotterup still to chip then you never know. He also ended up giving him the line for his putt. Not taking away from anything he played excellent however. Being told he was on the clock on 15 then making bogey could have easily rattled him but he carried on.

Definitely the right decision.  The haar was starting to get problematic on Saturday and we heard early on that the forecast was poorer on Sunday.  Around 10 on Saturday evening you could see the fog rolling in over Edinburgh and it was definitely getting unpleasant on Sunday evening as we marshals had to wait on prize giving finishing.

And now, Monday morning, it’s pishing down!

renaissance is better in person than on TV.

 

it might be hard to get a course that’s any good who would want it. Location wise it’s great at Renaissance. I think they have a contract with a few years remaining. 
 

interesting chatting to a friend whilst at Gullane beach on Saturday that with the Scottish there then there can’t be a Muirfield Open which makes sense.
