Yeah I just think for the sake of variety would be good to move it again, but I get that the infrastruture is there at the Renaissance and its at a decent location. I think the dry conditions helped bring a new dynamic to the course this year, compared to recent years where its not been quite as fiery. 

I think from a spectator point of view they could really improve some of the viewing areas around some of the tee boxes and make an attempt to get closer to the hole, there are some holes that you can barely see anything up close. I have noticed the last few years they are making some of the tee shots harder to get close to

That's a very strong reason to bin Renaissance in my opinion (although like you said, I think it's going to be there for a while yet).

 

If the SO has to be on a modern pseudo-links then Castle Stuart aka Cabot Highlands would be a much better choice.  Or get negotiating with Royal Aberdeen, Nairn, Western Gailes (probably no chance), etc.

There are very few alternatives where they can get a course that’s long enough, which has enough space for practice areas and spectator facilities, which has the accommodation and transport links and which will generate similar spectator numbers to RGC.  And where the membership/owners will accept the disruption that an event will impose on them!

Western Gailes is amazing but lacks space for the necessary infrastructure. Membership probably wouldn't want it either. I really enjoyed the round we played there.

I mean, he's Italian by heritage, so there's that. I think Rock got all the spare good things the English golfing gods had lying around so a transplant was the only remaining option.

Now that the tournament is co-sanctioned with the PGA tour a lot of the recent courses are out of the question due to the size of the operation. Every year more stands and refershment zones are being put in - only 'quiet' section is on the Muirfeld boudary (and obvs the 13th)

Inverness and Aberdeen wont get the size of crowds that are now expected/required - Gullane would require a composite course and having most of the courses out of play for build out etc.
Thinking back to when it was at Dundonald in 2017 never mind back to loch lomond, it was a MUCH smaller setup to what we see now.....

 

File it under a course thats OK but chosen for logistics over quality - they will work on the experience for players and patrons.
