You don’t put in enough effort

You’re uncoordinated

You’re stupid

You’re ugly

……and you’re mom dresses you funny.

Aim right, put all your weight on your left foot, anchor it there, strengthen the grip, roll your wrists just before impact and go buy a new driver.

How long before I can buy a Ferrari?

What are you waiting for??

Good shout, forgot about Grieve. Seems like there's room in the market if anyone wants to make clickbaity short game instruction. "Never duff a chip again!" and it's just playing hot bullets off the back of your stance with a super hooded face.

Smart content creators that want to make money really only care about consistently creating content.  That's what makes them money.  If you have long lapses between content created you're not going to make money.  Consistently pushing out content creates a brand and that creates a loyal viewership.

It doesn't matter if you're giving them content that the viewers want or need, if you're not creating content on a consistent basis, you're just not making any money.

And with the golf swing being what it is, where there are so many different ways to have a great swing and even if you try to segment different swings into different categories...you're going to get a lot segments....it's basically impossible to give even the majority of golfers 'what they need.'  Moe Norman needed different things that what Ben Hogan would need and that was different from what Jack Nicklaus would need.  So you're probably best at presenting concepts that are out there with a preamble of what type of golfer could use this information.

I don't know (nor do you), because I haven't polled every instructor out there, or even a statistically significant number of them.

All of the good ones I know do, though. So 100%. And it's often not even during the first lesson, but BEFORE that, when they're scheduling or just asking questions before scheduling their first lesson.

Sounds like you're making (negative) judgments based on a massive assumption that instructors just immediately jump to a solution without any conversation with the student.

These feel like the type of questions you should ask before the assumptions and judgments, no?

Part of my interview is to ask how much they have time to practice, and what facilities or things (a net in a garage, 100 acres, a range 2 minutes away, etc.) they have, and part of my notes at the end includes how they can do as little as 3 minutes, 5 times a day and get better at golf, and it doesn't have to be a huge time commitment.

I don't know that you've made a point.

I will say I slightly misread your original post, though. I took it as having an issue with the standard 30 minutes or hour, and that the instructor should communicate with the student until they achieve the desired level of play. My mistake - I see now you were saying that the instructor should communicate how much work it will take the student to make the change.

I do that. So do the other good instructors I know.

So please tell me how your post isn't based on a massive and quite often incorrect assumption that instructors don't do those things?

I’m glad you perform pre interviews.  I never stated they dont occur.  You appear to only know good instructors.   With over a “decade” of experience in the golf business, I’ve encountered both good and bad instructors……mostly bad….for me, far from 100%.

You failed to answer the question “how do you respond after discovering the prospective client wont be able to put forth the effort and time to implement the desired change/level of play?” (Discovery as a result of pre interview).  In my experience, most instructors still accept the business knowing full well they wont be able to meet the clients goals/wishes.  You may well be in the minority, but I’m still interested in your response.

With regard to my possible assumption…..how often do you see an effort to see if the OP can put forth the time/effort before advice is dispensed here?  How often do you make the effort?  I understand this isnt exactly tic for tac a lesson tee, but my original response was not only instructors but to members of the forum as well.  It’s my experience that it’s rarely asked, discussed, before advice is dispensed.  It’s also rare to see it discussed in combination with what is recommended.  I dont feel that it’s a stretch that what I see here, is similar to what happens out there….as I too have over a decade of experience as an instructor.  Please note, I didn’t exclude myself in my original post.

Likewise, if you work at a restaurant and you take an order for the monster nachos, a responsible business owner would sit down with the patron and ask him if that was really the best thing for his health.

I applaud your effort in performing pre interviews for weight loss goals at your restaurant 😉

Wow.

it does make me wonder though.  I think I heard the rule of thumb is somewhere around $1k earned from YouTube for every 150k views.  Assuming that’s correct , he’s probably not making that much money.  I guess he could be making $4k a month before taxes . But I’d have to see the paperwork to believe it. In my opinion, it’s not a great deal for the amount of hours he puts into the production of that dumpster fire. But I also don’t desire to be famous.  So that might be my disconnect on why it’s worth it. He may enjoy the attention.

It’s all fools gold in my opinion anyway.  I know a political personality personally ,that once had 6 million subscribers before moving platforms.   It took a 20 person team - full time employees - to Produce it and track the stories , and finances.  In the end. He told me several times that a job managing a Costco would have paid the same to his personal pocket.

No, I didn't. Just because I didn't give you the answer you assumed does not mean I didn't address that point.

We don't arrive at that point, because I did the pre-interview, then I craft a plan that they can do in the time and with the capacity/facilities/etc. that they have.

I'm not sure what you're picturing, but I'm not falling into your trap my man. I'm sure you've seen a lot in your over 100 years in the golf business… but if a 20 handicapper tells me he wants to be a scratch golfer by September, there's a conversation to be had. And if that person decides after hearing what I have to say that I'm not the instructor for them, I've saved us both some time and anguish.

I don't know what you want… people aren't paying for this stuff here, so I'm not going to spend a bunch of extra time trying to get someone to answer a bunch of interview questions. To expect otherwise is silly, IMO.

SM is driven by algorithms that funnels a ton of garbage chasing the original pound. Guy queries, "slice fix" he'll get a month of it on feed. He'll click on a few more. Query current events, every 6 weeks there's new crew saying the world ends in 6 weeks. It's almost guaranteed with any topic, you get thrown in a rabbit hole of idiocy, but that's what sells the soap.

It's simple.

People want what they want, they don't want what they need. But fundamentally, they need to want. The need to want is what drives wanting what they want. Everyone knows they need what they need, but for truly transformative change, they have to want to need what they need. And we all need to want them to want that need to need.

If we’re both stating our opinions, and I assume, and you assume, am I the only the bad guy……or can we agree its ok when we’re stating opinions based on our experiences?

Sometimes, a question is merely posed because the person asking is interested in your response.  I dont think my plan was for you to respond in a manner that not only would make you look bad, but also support my opinion.

Yes, people dont pay for “stuff” here and its possible some are doing so out of the goodness of their heart….its also possible they’re doing it to filter potential clientele to their online instruction business.  Because of that possibility, it’s not silly to want to see interview questions asked from time to time.  But if it’s your opinion that all are doing it for charity, so be it.

I used the incorrect word, then the correct word…..I am fallible!  Please dont throw me out with the bathwater. 🙂
