John Hayes created this driver that was given as a gift to Rory Mcllroy this week to celebrate his career grand slam. John bought Joe Powell's equipment and supplies from his estate and has been producing innovative and beautiful persimmon for a few years under both his own and the Joe Powell name. His woods are solid and wonderfully playable, but they are also exploring innovative sole plate designs and some radical inserts. We focus, as we should, on the classic stuff of our youth, but it is really cool to see someone not only keeping the tradition alive in 2025, but also doing something new. Rory loved the way it looked, and then he teed it up and absolutely crushed a perfect drive. Here are a few pics and an article on the presentation event.

Forgive me for offering the view that Joe Powell Golf is owned by Scott Readman and John E Morgan, the Company being located in Bristol, England.

I'm very prone to get things wrong in my advanced years so please let me know if my information is incorrect.

Scott Readman said on Persimmon Golf Society F/B pages that he put some paint on that very club a short time before it was presented to Rory McIlroy.

The internet is a fickle place and we do have a responsibility to get things as right as we can.

Readman and Morgan own the name and run the business, John Hayes owns the equipment and makes the new clubs. They work together in partnership.

Readman and Morgan also bought out most of what was left of new old stock and obtained a nice inventory of clubs to sell. My understanding from John Hayes is that John Morgan is a fantastic partner to work with and an all-around great guy. John Morgan's connections have opened the doors to both tour pros and celebrities, which is leading to global publicity for persimmon again.

Mogsy, I sort of know through some personal JP sales and our Play Persimmon Golf group here in the UK, Scott is also a member. PPG runs the annual Persimmon Revival Open, 7th running this year, + a few others.
