Callaway Apex Ai150 Irons! In-Hand Pics

That’s a bummer Jim. Sorry to hear that.

btw. Love me an 11 iron.

Only studs need an 11 iron or old guys, I just like the set wedge for proper distance control. Oh well, the Ai150 look good, no beveled leading edge ( can see from the pictures), not too big or small. I don't care about top line, has no effect on the swing. Not a big fan of hollow irons and hated the 24 APEX pro, so maybe I am better off with the rusty ones.

Def no effect on the swing. I just happen to be one of the “WRX sickos” that’s caught up on aesthetics & look at address 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hope you find what ur looking for J!

honestly unless it is really thin like a miura type blade I don't notice. Can't remember how the PING BP s/ t looked, must have been thinner. Seems like the Ai 150 is very close to what the 24 TCB look like.

Blueprint S & T definitely thinner. Just bought a set

*full disclosure. I haven’t seen these 150s in person! The TL could actually look like a razor blade!!

They do have the beveled leading edge. Has the tri sole like the other stuff released this week. Might be hard to tell with the chrome.

I am upset that I directly asked the callaway rep two weeks ago about these and got the "I don't know" not soon answer. SO I bought the TCB, now these appear to be very similar in the shorter irons and not raw and have a AW.

Damn it Callaway tell your people what is going on, I know their 1st job is to sell clubs but this puts a bad taste on things.

If they drop a TCB Satin set next week with a 11 iron, I am selling all the Callaway stuff and buying Proto Concept or Miura @TiScape was right again..but at least they are not PINGS 🤩

Maybe it depends on which rep you draw. I called them around June 10 and the rep told me they had been authorized to tell callers there is an iron coming out “in the next month or so” that will replace the Apex Pro. I asked him if it was the ai150 — already being mentioned on golfwrx — and he said yes. Now, I was calling to ask a few questions about the ai200 so I don’t know if that was why he told me.

The ai200 is what got me interested in these. I hit a 5 iron numerous times head to head with the p770 and I liked the ai200 more. Size-wise I thought the ai200 was closer to the P790. Forgiveness-wise and on feel, I preferred the ai200 over both. Very easy to hit, has that soft/solid feel. And the ai200 looks fine to me, but if the ai150 could match it in a sleeker package ….

The rep should have told you IMO. If your irons are a new set bought recently, maybe they would take a return and credit you. May be worth asking, especially since they are doing 2X trades. Those TCBs you have are nice irons. They’re awesome and a little intimidating! A friendlier version based on those is alluring. The sole on the ai150 has a slight bevel, more than the X Forged and less than you see on New Levels. I like the rolled leading edge on the 702CB+ (that’s the X Forged-type iron with more forgiveness features that works for me), but going by photos the bevel seems far more subtle on these.

And you know I agree with you on Proto Concept. IYKYK.

Oh yeah. It has been done many times. Lots of wrxers have done it with various heads. Some use a Dremel tool to speed up the process. There is a technique to it to avoid swirls but I saw some Srixon heads that were dulled and they looked sweet.

When I first got started I would drool over the Mizzy MP-14s n MP-29s at the local golf shop. Both bright chrome blades. So I’m def a fan. Had a few sets and it never bothered me.

This anti chrome slander cannot stand!   Team Chrome all the way!  They show less wear and just look classy. Give me a 56 Bel Air and the irons to match.

Really though, I have found as long as they extend the frosted finish to the topline, there isn't any glare.  I hit a vintage Staff blade that didn't have the bead blast on top and that produced a shocking amount of glare for a 2 iron.

I’m really looking forward to trying these. These could be the exact irons that I’m looking for. I don’t feel good enough to play the Apex Pro but I feel that I’m better than the AI 200’s.
I currently play the Titleist T150. I feel deep down that I’m not a good enough ball striker to play them and the T200’s feel clunky and are a little too large for me. It looks the Apex 150 is right in between them.

Titleist has nailed the look of their new lineup.

Callaway seems to have a few different design teams making clubs under the Apex name with each team doing their own thing. I loved the Apex '16 models but not so much this current generation. The lineup just doesn't feel connected.

The 150 looks like a clear replacement for the Apex Pro of a couple years back. That club didn't turn out to be a sales winner for Callaway. Will a name change and some shiny chrome change that?

You nailed it - my feelings exactly.  I have played the 23 Pros for the last 1.5 years and played really well with them but have never truly "loved" them.  I have been a full Callaway bag guy for the last 5 years but we have a Titleist fitting at our club next week and a T150 with 4 & 5 in the 250 seems like I get everything I want with no compromises.

Correct...according to Golf.com

Secondly, Callaway is also going all in on not only having an iron for everyone, but also a sole design for everyone. The tri-sole on the Ai150 is not exactly the same as the X Forged, which gives people the option to chose between the two, and it’s obviously different from Ti Fusion.

Yes, it is difficult to tell from photos. In watching reviews it seems they are using it across the line but on some heads the bevel is slight and the edges are a little sharper (X Forged) and on others it is a slightly softer version (ai200, 150, TCB). The Elyte looks like it has a little more bevel. All of these soles are based on swing data that Callaway is running through AI to optimize.

As @BirdieBobsays, something for everyone. Emiliano Grillo prefers the sole on his TCBs, Max Greyserman loves the sole on the X Forged. I like the leading edge on New Level irons, which looks more substantial than most but those also are very low-bounce irons, so it works well together. But among filled-head designs I like the sole on the ai200 so I opted for the ai150. I am hopeful it plays like the ai200 only a bit thinner version. That’s what it looks like.

Yea, that is cool. I didn’t realize there would be different sole types. I figured they were all pretty much the same if they had the tri sole so that’s cool to see.
