Heaviest TaylorMade Spider?

Ok I’m sure you guys here can help me out. I’ve always enjoyed Taylor made Spider putters, especially the true path, but always felt that they were light, even with the heaviest possible weights installed. Of course I’m referring to the Spider tour X (or similar) models. It seems that these only can go up to around 375 grams with the heaviest weights (16g) installed. I’ve tried additional lead tape and that still wasn’t enough. I’ve also tinkered with wheel weights but apparently those are illegal for tournament play…would my only option be to cut down a (heavier/bigger) Spider Tour S to play at my normal length? Looking for it to play somewhere around 390g-400g. Please let me know if you guys have any other tips, tricks, or options. Thanks!!

**Just for reference I’m currently gaming a Scotty Cameron Golo at 33” with 45g weights intalled**

Have you checked the bay for aftermarket weights? Seems like such a popular line would offer some knock off weights.

I know there are tons of cheap weight kits for Scotty. Imagine it would be the same for TM.

Yes I have. I’ve ordered plenty over the years but seems like the heaviest they make for the Spider Tour line is 16g.

That is odd especially when you see Scotty weights up to 45g. Not sure what other solutions there would be... maybe reach out to TM just to see if they have anything not for public sale.

Amazon also sells heavier tungsten black rubber weights meant for tennis. Those may be better for you but not sure where you would put them.

This might be a stupid idea, but could you consider changing the grip?

If you change the grip to the lighter model the putter head would feel “heavier”

That way you wouldn’t need to search for those weights.

You could get one of the 37" counterbalanced models and put a normal length shaft in it.

Not really when the Scotty ones are basically a plug and can be made from different metals and materials removed for exact weights.

Most of the Spider ones are just screws and those can only be so heavy. The Spider EX with the external weights have heavier options but also limited.

Are you really looking for more head weight or do you want more total weight? Super heavy weights in the head can make the putter feel unbalanced. It’s not a cure-all. Can get unwieldy and promote too much hand action.

You might experiment and try more weight in the total build. It surprisingly can make the putter seem heavier and solid, but balanced at the same time.

One thing I have seen done and another I have heard about:

1. Install one or more Tour Lock Pro weights deep in the shaft. Get them past the fulcrum and they will increase swing weight and overall weight feel. Deeper you go, the more the weight feels like it is in the head.

2. May sound crazy, but … Fill the shaft with glass beads — which come in different densities — and cap it with a cork in the shaft. If the beads are held in place and not moving, it is legal for play. Bobby Grace told me about this and said there is or was a player on the LPGA Tour who set up all her putters this way. Again, gives the whole putter a solid feel. Bobby said in the old days players used sand instead of glass beads.

I play my putters at around 370g but I also install a 30g Tour Lock Pro weight 4 inches down the shaft, under my lower hand. I don’t care for the feel of counterbalancing and moving it down the shaft gives it more of an overall balanced feel. It makes the putter play like it’s about 350g even though it is heavier.
