3w Shaft Recommendations - Dumping Ventus Blue

Hey all, curious what ventus profile I should try out in 3w as I currently have a ventus blue velocore (7-S) in my gt2 15* and have been struggling to hit it consistently. I bought the head loose and shaft loose and just trying to find a decent setup. With the ventus blue, I feel like I REALLY have to focus on smooth tempo and not swing nearly as hard as what a "stock" swing is for me. If I swing normal, typically just getting snap hooks. I'm no fitter but do I need a stiffer handle?

 

I play a Motore X F1 6-S in driver if it means anything, I was fitted for that shaft.

 

Thinking of experimenting with a TR Red 7-S but wanted to get some opinions on here first. I don't really think I'm a Ventus Black player? I'm about 103-105 swing speed with 3w. 107-110 with driver.

I wouldn't put a Ventus Black in a 3 wood, but that's me, and I have a fast tempo/transition.  The black and red profiles have stiff handles, so fit me much better than Blue.  I have the original Ventus Red in 5 & 6 and gave the 7 series to a buddy, and still have TR Blue in 5 & 6, but all of them are in storage.  

 

I am considering putting a Diamana GT 70 in one of my 3 woods; they have stiff handles and  midsections and slightly softer tips.  It's been in my driver for a while now; really like it.

I find that the Ventus black lineup(OG/TR/Velo+) are all harder to turnover than their blue counterparts and work really well with more aggressive transitions.  TR red is a really good fairway shaft as well but it's pretty much the opposite EI profile of the blue.  I actually found it more stable than any of it's blue breatheren.  My transition is aggressive with driver and moderate with fairways.

UST Ling if you want to try a cheap version get a purple you feel them so that takes getting used to but they hold up to my very fast transition

An untipped blue TR in 7X might do well. You have enough speed for it.

+1 on the Ventus VC TR Red suggestion for a stiffer handle. Even the regular Ventus Red in the newer velocore+ lineup would probably fit the bill.

I disagree that the handle is what need to be looked at here, and it's usually one of the lesser important parts of the shaft in terms of what is the most impactful in terms of flex/feel. 

The Motore X F1 is a stiff mid design, IIRC it's similar to the Aldila Green/Silver profiles. The Ventus Blue is quite rubbery and soft in the midsection, which sounds exactly like what you're struggling with feel-wise @opensupoverthere27. Is there any reason you wouldn't want to try an F1 in the fairway as well? The Ventus Black 7s could also be the ticket as well.

I personally hate the ultra stiff handle /soft mid on the Ventus Reds.  Totally throws me off.

I play a black profile in my driver, but really like the TR Blue for my 3w. Stiffest handle of the Ventus Blues, but don't feel like I have to go after it like most black profiles.

I simply do not care for, or believe in the idea that a shaft change can do anything to fix a snap hook. 

 

IMO figure out what is actually causing the snap hook. Is your build to spec? Did you check the head weight/MOI/length of the build? Is is something in your swing causing it?

 

I think what you'll find is whatever shaft fixes the snaps for you temporarily has more of a placebo effect than anything. Shaft fitting isn't pointless - it just has limitations.

I agree with you on this, but i don't fight that with any other club in the bag. I don't have any issue finding the center with anything but that club. I really have to slow the swing down to connect with the blue in there which is what's making me think its time to cough it up. I'm talking 70% swings.

 

I have a hzrdus black in a u505 3i and my iron shafts are 120 X100s which is why I'm intrigued on trial and error with either a ventus black or TR red

I probably would have put you in the Ventus Blue X based on the swing speed you reference. The blue doesn't play super stiff to flex as the TX option checks that box. 

 

If the Motore X works well in your driver, the easiest option might be to order the same shaft in 70 grams. If there's concern about it not playing stiff enough, you can order it a half inch long for testing. If it feels too loose, tip it the extra half inch, if it feels good, cut the half inch off the butt end and regrip.

Of course no shaft will fix the left snapper, however, I'm a firm believer that shafts that can help lessen the severity.  For example. I have the Diamana GT in my 3 metal that will not go hard left on me unless I get absolutely lazy with my swing.  In fact, I can work the ball both ways with ease with it.  It's a combo of retaining enough spin even off the toe, feel and level of comfort.

Tensei AV Series Blue S, 65. It works nicely, but I have to purposely slow myself to make it do what it's supposed to. A stiffer handle and a bit more weight would help so I don't have to think.
