WOW!! G440 Max driver…

I bought an 9* but when I tried it I hit it too low, so I lofted up to a 10.5 head set at flat -1. I went out today to test it against my long time gamer TM Sim Max. It’s been in the bag for over 5years because I never could find anything better on a toe miss. Well, that is no longer the case. I can’t say enough about just how good the g440 max driver is. Any strike middle to toe side produces practically the same shot, and same distance. After the first few holes I actually hit center and intentional toe shots and they were either side by side, or the toe strike was a bit longer. I’m amazed how forgiving this driver is. As if all that isn’t enough, I hit it about 10yds longer than my Sim Max.

Yeah it’s crazy good. I had looked at the coolclubs testing and that made me want to try it. However, I was blown away by how forgiving and consistent it is.

It’s unbelievable. I recently picked one up with a TR Blue 6S. Those toe strikes have been creeping in big-time for me this year, and on the range I was seeing that there’s virtually no penalty at all. It’s so, so consistent. I’m hoping to get it on the course for the first time next week.

I agree, I mean I can feel it when I hit it off the toe and like you said there’s no distance or dispersion difference. Not sure if they’ve done something with the bulge and roll or how they made it that good on toe strikes, but it’s ridiculously forgiving.

It’s funny, I really wanted to like both the g430 and g440 but I just found them short off the tee compared to other clubs. And we aren’t taking a few yards, we are talking 10-15. Both fittings I ended up walking away with the titleist driver that went further and straighter.

 

I know this is just my game and it’s definitely not the case for everyone, just found them disappointing. I’m a big Ping fan and I really wanted to put one of them in the bag but Ping drivers just don’t seem to work for me and I’ve always struggled with them through my golfing life.  It’s a bit like callaway irons, I’ve never hit any model well.

What Titleist did you get?  I’m guessing your miss is in the heel.  The toe side forgiveness of a ping 440 PST or Max absolutely destroys the GT2.

Such a good driver if you struggle with the toe side miss

Nope Miss is toe side, bad shot is a hook. I’ve got the GT1 with a heavier weight in the head and standard weight shaft and it destroyed the pings for me. In fact it destroyed everything it was put up against. Just something about ping drivers that doesn’t work for me at all, no issues with the woods or hybrids.

That’s interesting and just proves that people react to clubs differently. Even the coolclubs robot test shows a drop off in distance with toe strikes on the GT1 but for your delivery that isn’t the case. So many good clubs out there that it’s just a matter of finding the one that works best.

Ohhh, nice!  I was guessing GT2.  I had the GT2 and it is a killer driver when you don’t get too far toe side.  I have a terrible habit of missing toe side and the GT2 would turn hard left on those bad swing days.  When my swing was on though, it was incredible.

Couldn’t get on with gt2, it looked weirdly offset to me and my previous driver was tsr2.

 

Honestly this GT1 is superb in a standard weight setting rather than its usual lightweight set up. Surprised titleist don’t shout about it as it was in the literature they sent to my pro.

Yeah. Pretty gutted as love the look of the ping drivers but never been able to get them to work for me.

I have the same experience with the gt2, and I will be moving on from the gt2. The gt2 is VERY forgiving off the heal, probably the best ive tried. Unfortunately my miss is off the toe and the gt2 is below average at best on the toe

Same exact results for me as well. I think it's the slower swing speed, my Drivers SS averages around 95ish.

 

Neither one of the Titleist GT2/3 were better than my PXG Black Ops Tour-1 either.

I love my G440 Max.  I have it in 9 degree.  I literally laugh while watching some of my bad strikes fly thru the air.  The ball has no business doing what it ends up doing.  This gives me so much confidence to swing faster, which easily makes up the distance gap the club has vs other options.  That's my experience, YMMV.

My driver fitting said I was between 96-98mph consistently, so similar to yourself. I couldn’t get GT2 to work either, in fact nothing could beat my tsr2 until the GT1 in heavier set-up was wheeled out.

 

Nevertheless I will try again with the ping driver next time round. One day I’ll find one that works as well as their other clubs have for me over the years. For now I’ll just have to jealously admire all you people with G440s.

It's all in the shaft you use.

The whole G4xx family of drivers is so forgiving. I've had my 430 Max since launch day, driver used to be my weakness, now it's my strength. When you're confident the ball will stay in play, you naturally swing faster and smoother.

 

My last season with the TM M2, and my current season with the Ping, night and day difference.

The Ventus is on the heavier side "feel" wise to me, think the Alta shafts are really good just a bit light for me. Would probably go.with the Denali 60 Red in the new offerings. SW goes to the draw setting and played  at 45 1\4.

This. PING is a little cheeky/smart with the CB shaft - the stock length is 45 3/4 for the CB shaft, 45 1/4 for standard shafts to maintain swingweight.
