WOW!! G440 Max driver…

Playing today for the first time with my G440 Max.  We’ll see if it can dethrone my current champ, the G400Max.  At the TopTracer Range they’re virtually identical, curious to see how they differ on the course.

I spent Sunday at the British Senior Open (love a walk around Sunningdale Old!).  One thing that stood out to me was the sheer number of them that were playing a recent PING driver.  Probably the most popular driver based on the unscientific evidence of whom I watched!

I remember going last time it was at Sunningdale.  Then the driver of choice was Taylormade.

Makes me think I need

to hit a G440 Max….

Watched the last two rds on TV, what a great course Sunningdale is, membership there would be pretty nice.

More than a few G430-40 drivers hiding under other OEM head covers on all pro tours lately. Love mine.

I won a round with a member in a raffle draw (best £25 I have ever spent) so played there a month ago when preparations for the SnrOpen well underway.  I now know the answer to the question “which course would you join if money etc were not a barrier”!!!

The member let us play off back tees on four or five holes.  Fantastic fun!

My 400 max broke last week, and I got a 440 max to replace it. I have been practicing with it, and it seems ok, but just not the same as the 400. I’m playing tomorrow. Sure hope it works.

Tried it today, and hit the longest drives I have ever hit on two holes. The others were a bit erratic. I hit some right, and hit some left. I was very straight with the G400 Max. I’m getting a 440 adaptor put on my 400 shaft. Hopefully, it’s just a bit of getting used to something new.

It’s funny, i thought the same thing.  My first drive with the G440MAX was absolutely centered.  It went perfectly straight, high, carried forever, or so i thought.  I tracked it using my GPS watch, it was shorter than my normal drives with the G400MAX.  Several holes were that way, my playing partners “ooh’d and ahh’d” over my tee shots and they were still longer than i was. I have the exact same shaft in both clubs, same length, same grip even, yet the G400MAX is still King!

How did the 440 MAX work on the course for you?

I haven’t liked a Ping driver since the G400 series.  Since that series I’ve owned at least the Max or LST in every subsequent series and could never get them to work on course.

The G440 Max changed that.  I’m playing it as a 12 degree three wood with the Chrome 2.0 shaft - 43” playing length.  Off the deck it doesn’t work quite as well as my Epic Max but I’m hitting the G440 better off the tee.  When I have measured my best was 268 and average 240+.  Great for when the driver goes cold or for tight par 4’s.

I do have a Chrome 2.0 in driver length but I just haven’t spent enough time testing that.  It’s more having a comfort level with my Ai Smoke 3x diamond.

Anyways I love the Chrome shaft.  I tried the Black and that just didn’t do it for me.  I have a few different Graphite Designs along with a Red + Blue Velocore but I like the Chrome shaft overall all those in this head.

Good thread. Thanks to Gianni for flagging it on the home page.

To all of the G440 users;

a) What do you think about the sound?

b) How do you compare the sound of the G440 to previous model Ping drivers?

c) How do you compare the sound of the G440 to other favorite drivers (especially the recent carbon-faced TaylorMades)?

d) Have you tried to do anything about sound via hotmelt? (The G440 of course follows the modern trend of tour-level drivers by having a real live hot melt port.)
