Irons Lie Angle

If I’m using irons that are too long for me and are 2* upright, will that cause me to hit over draws? I’m thinking it will hit the ground in the heel portion of the head and cause it to turn over. I’d just like to know what the thoughts are before I invest in alterations to the set. Thanks.

Cutting down a club will lower the swing weight by about six points per inch. This can make the club too light but adding lead tape will bring it back up.

It is easy to make small loft and lie adjustments to golf clubs with the right equipment.

I think they’re around 3/4” long. I like the irons (TaylorMade RSi2) but is it worth the cost to adjust them for me? Thx

How Tall are you?

What is your wrist to floor with shoes on?

This is what is needed to give you "Baseline" on how long and what lie your irons are. You also need to swing with lie tape to see your impact.

If your irons are too upright, and long, you could hit pulls. The more toe up your irons are at impact, the more the club face points left, (for a right hander) sending the ball in the same direction. A longer club could promote a flatter swing plane which could produce an in to out path producing a right to left curvature.

Get fit for length and lie angle is probably what you should do

Perform a lie angle test. Guidance on how to do this yourself is all over this forum. Do some research, then test. As needed, afterwards, you can take appropriate action.

You could also hit the ball off the tee to take out the ground interaction.

Why not choke down and have the lie adjusted to fit you and see how that works?

thanks for all the advice. My wrist to floor is 34.5”. I’m 5’10”, so I think that’s standard. They’re worth cutting to proper length and adjusting the lie, so I think I’ll go ahead with that. Thanks!

For length (and head weight) - most likely. Especially if you are capable of regripping the clubs yourself, then this is something you could easily do yourself.

For lie angle - probably not. A degree or two of the lie angle being off is only a few yards of lateral change in ball flight for most - and it's consistent enough to easily adjust to.

But there can be a big subjective aspect to this so you never know for sure until you try it - which is why you got some good advice on how to test things out yourself to make it easier to get answers.
