Hyperflex Carbon vs Premiere Series

Recommended Posts

I have some shop cred to use and need a new pair of white shoes. Are the new hyperflex carbon good enough to overcome the (much better in my opinion) looks of the premiere series?

It's subjective, the HyperFlex has taken over as FJs top athletic and tech filled shoe and it's gaining popularity in a lot of golfers. I think the biggest swap would be JT going from the Premiers to the HyperFlex.

I just think many golfers like the comfort in them along with the stability from the carbon foot plate, some say it's too squishy or they feel tall but I'm fine with it. Some also wonder about the 6 spike sole on the HyperFlex but it seems to work.

The Premiers are obviously extremely popular and extremely stable and can be comfortable if they fit your foot. For me they don't really and many others do chime in with similar thoughts as well. But cannot deny how popular they are for people who's feet they fit.

The Premiers being leather will be easier to clean and look better longer, the HF can get dirty cause of the material they said they fixed that but who knows especially all white.

If it was me and I was buying off the rack I'm 100% buying the HyperFlex, if I had the chance to do a full FJ shoe fitting I might see what Premier I'd fit into just for something different.

I have the two pairs of the 2025 Hyperflex Carbons and two pairs of Premiere Fields. Heres my take:

Hyperflex Carbons:

Superb fit. Right when I put them on and lace them up it's like a glove. No hot spots, just pure comfort. Glad that they ditched the sock like tongue for a traditional one. Super stable. I do wish it had one more spike underneath the toe area, though. Tough to keep clean. The Carbon model is more of a solid material versus the standard model's mesh-like material, so the lower half of the shoe is easier to clean. But, the upper parts are difficult to clean (the tongue and inner/outer part of the opening). I've come to a point where I just don't even try anymore (this is the white pair I am speaking of). The black pair doesn't show as much dirt.

Premiere Fields:

I know you are looking at the Packards, but I imagine these will be similar in terms of fit. Comfort wise, the Hyperflex win all day for me. That's not to say that the Premieres aren't comfortable, they just take a little longer to break in and "mold" to your foot. I've worn my pairs 6-8 times and it still takes a good hole or two before they feel "fine". After that, maybe an occasional hot spot that fades away after a few holes. Stability with the spikes and traction are second to none. However, they are low cut so if you need ankle support, these aren't great for that. I would never walk the course in these. Very easy to clean these but I typically only wear these on dry days or when I am playing a nicer course/club.

It really depends on what works for your feet, but I tried both and the hyperflex won handily.   I value comfort over looks and to my feet, hyperflex fit much better.   My arch and instep are relatively high so I prefer shoes with a roomier forefoot with a standard heel area.   YMMV.   Premiers are definitely more comfortable than their ancestors, but I feel like I'd still need some breakin time with them.   If I tried walking 18 out to box the way I did hyperflex I'm certain that I'd have a blister or two.

I honestly disagree with this. I have a pair of icons and a couple pairs of premiers and I think the icons are much more comfortable. I wish they were still available!

Problem I have with the premier series, and this is true with every pair, is the heel pulls no show socks down... It happens so often, I stopped wearing them.

I would get the hyperflex

My no show socks do fine on my premieres. But I do find some sock brands better than others. Feetures are the best I’ve tried for the heel slip stability.

I wear Balega which are the best I've found for heel stability and they still get pulled down... In no other shoes but my premiers...  All three pairs.

I have Balegas too. They are the loosest/softest socks I own -  compared to Feetures, smartwool, darn tough, swift wick.

I have my issues w how premieres fit, I have two packards, one packard boa, two fields, but heels of my socks slipping aren’t one of the issues with these shoes (yes with some other shoes).

I really don’t feel that Balegas hold very well.

I couldn't agree more with all of this.

I was an Adidas guy for years. I thought the Adidas ZG23s were a nearly perfect golf shoe, bought multiple pairs of them, etc. etc. I was in the market for a new pair this season and really did not like the new Adizero ZGs this year, so I ventured outside Adidas for the first time in years. That had me find the Footjoy Hyperflex Carbon, which I wouldn't have honestly ever tried if it weren't for the Adizero ZGs being so bad to me.

I absolutely love the Carbons for all the reasons MattM97 said. The only downside is that back part around your Achilles tendon area does get really dirty looking really fast. The rest of the shoe looks pretty clean.

The Premiers really don't fit me quite right. I also personally just like the more athletic looking shoes vs. the traditional shoes, but that's personal preference.

Did you keep the same size? Ive been wearing the zg23s for a while and thinking about making the switch but the sizing seems to be different on the pairs ive tried on.

For me usual size. I went down half a size initially but some of my toes rub with walking.

I do the same thing. Tried going down a half size in normal and wide (I’m always normal width) and still have issues with the toe box/toe rubbing even with the fields which is supposed to be a slightly wider box than the packards/wilcox. Finally went back to my normal size in normal width and love them, understand the hype. Heel slippage initially but improves after some break in time

Agree with the heels improving with break in.

I walk 70% of my rounds, mainly on courses with quite a few hills. For me the premieres are the way to go, most athletic style shoes make me feel more tired at the end of the round with foot pain as they seem squishy and my feet prefer something more stable.

I can completely agree with this.   Some of those really soft rebound intensive models feel great in the store, but in my case after walking 18 the feet may have felt good, but my calves felt it.

It's good the premieres work for you, but I'll just point out the last couple of hyperflex are quite stable, especially the carbon version.   In fact, some ding it for feeling firm... in my book that was a plus.

Yea… wish i could easily compare the hyperflex and carbon versions. Not sure if i want them so rigid.

If you want less rigid, the regular is the way to go, but to my feet the differences weren't apparent except in a side by side comparisons.   I was in a position that I could choose either and I just preferred the carbon color ways.

Thx for the comparison.

according to my rep my size for hyperflex carbon boa doesn’t stock until September.

Just walked 18 with the latest HF Carbon - coming from 6-7 pairs of various Premieres.  Definitely more comfortable and just as stable.  I did notice a tiny bit less grip from the sole being slick in some places, and they feel like 1/4" taller.  Overall, great feeling shoe - not sure if the last is different, but they seem to fit my foot better than the Premiers (same size for both).  Hopefully they don't flatten out and lose the cushioning quickly.

I had a regular pair of HF (non-carbon) and didn't love them.  The actual tongue makes a huge difference on the fit.
